I JUST CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION / hYDRAULIC fluid in the 1963 John Deere 4010

Do you know if your tractors hyd pump has a seal drain line? It would be mounted at lower rear of pump body. Larger pump requires a larger fitting on RH side(AT33033)

I do not know if my pump has a seal drain line. Is that what John Deere calls it?

How do I find a picture of the seal drain line? Still reading. I haven't fully figured out the Seal drain line.

Look at your tractors brake valve & if you see a black plastic line leading to frt of tractor attached to brake valve then that is the seal drain line.

I was going to try changing the small screen in the front hydraulic pump just to see what it looked like.

My pump seems upside down from the pump in the picture. I pulled what I thought was plug #21 - from the bottom. It was beside #6 . The plug that I did not take out - I assume was #6 because it had the roll pin for T sticking down.

It looks to me like Plug number 9 was on the bottom, When I pulled the plug #11 fell out. I did not see anything else come out. I put it back together.

It there anything else that may have fallen out that I may have missed? I could stick my finger up the hole and feel some rubber. I am guessing #12.

If #34 is towards the rear of the tractor & #9 is on the bottom left side, It would seem to be upside down. I am assuming this would make it very difficult to change the screen - #17.

Is the tractor safe to run as is?

Or am I sorely mistaken?

I don't remember ever seeing a frt hyd pump installed with the end plate rotated 180 ° but I suppose it could happen. I think if you put all parts back in the orifice you'll be fine to operate the tractor. I don't remember seeing the yrs I was employed at JD dealer many filters in frt hyd pump plate that needed cleaning/replacing.

I have heard that the front screen rarely if ever needs cleaning or replacing. If they somehow managed to install my pump 180 degrees, would that make a difference in the way it runs? Possible cause of the noise?

I am guessing it may have had a home grown rebuild at some point in time.

Am I correct about what the correct orientation of the pump is supposed to be?

A local pump rebuilder said he would cut me a deal on rebuilding this pump.

I don't want to install it upside down again.

Checking the screen was just something to do before I remove the pump.

If it is upside down, I will definitely be removing and rebuilding.

Right now I just want to drive it over to the power washer and hit it again.

It's amazing how much you find you missed, once you get to working on something

Destroking screw with roll pin(tee) should be pointing up & stroke control adjusting screw with locking nut should be pointing down.

Did you change hydraulic filter? There is also a pickup screen in differential housing.Slight noise is usually air which will work its way out

Yep. Changed the filter and checked/cleaned the screen behind the plug with the square head. Everything was pretty clean.

I think I'm beyond a slight noise. When I started after putting plug #9 back in, it was really squealing until it got oil.

Is there a way to prime the system a little more before starting after I get the pump rebuilt?
