I'm an correct English and grammar nut as well. I work with people who might say, "I seen him come through the door." The problem with English is it is a ******* language. Many foreigners will tell you that English is one of the most difficult languages to learn as it has so many rule breakers.

Prime example,

The language nerds. - Discover the insanity of the English language in just one word! | Facebook

Incredibly funny.
You should be as studious at proof reading your own posts...especially when they are about "correct English" etc...:D

And those rules were different, depending on when it was adopted. That's why there is moose, moose and mouse, mice and goose, geese and dog, dogs.

Since we are in grammar 101, who can give the proper place to use the word sang, and the word sung?

I'm getting worse at grammar as I get older.

I use to use "eat", "ate", "eaten" correctly, but not any more (as my wife reminds me).

I've also never learned when to use "effect" or "affect", even when I read explanations of which to use. :confused3:

....but I do know a word that rhymes with "purple"! :cool2:

edit: "...a conjunction that rhymes..."
edit2: "...a conjunction I made up..".
edit3: "a conjunction I made up, OK, it probably doesn't really exist...."

"Roses are red
violets are purple
if the pancakes don't fill you up,
the syrup'll!"

To beavers and woodchucks, maybe.
A beaver's favorite wood is aspen. I guess that you could say that they prefer popple pallets.
Actually they only eat the bark, but now I'm splitting hairs.

"Effect," noun; "Affect," verb except when you want to "effect" a cure

When I was in the Navy, we had to have our XO review all of our outgoing draft messages. He was a "Grammar ****" - but we learned.

Funny thing is he would also make pen-and-ink corrections to incoming messages on the read board. All the way up to those coming from the Pentagon!
