How many people have to change their clocks tonight?

One of the clocks I changed this morning at 7:15 now shows 9:11 and I put in a fresh fully charged battery, yet it is according to my wrist watch and this computer 11:19 A.M. somehow I think that clock is destined for the dump.

Well, since it's prime function, doesn't seem to be functioning well, I would have to agree with you. Unless it is really pretty to look at, I would say its a "goner" :)

It just started working again, but it is still a goner. Like vehicles, I WILL NOT have an unreliable clock.
I have two clocks here that are right twice a day. One is a Chelsea Ships Bell mantel clock that was made in 1924 and presented to Kaiser Wilhelm II. The other one, also a Chelsea but a porthole clock was made in the '70s.

I woke up and changed a bunch of clocks this morning, then, the wife gets up and I asked her if she changed HER clock. She then proceeds to reset all the clocks I changed back to what her clock shows...............:confused2:

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Benjamin Franklin introduced daylight saving, as I am a clock and watch collector I don't bother changing most of them and often don't wind them all, the only one that runs continually is my Atmos which never needs winding.
I do change the watches I wear and the car clocks.
Last year SWMBO told me to put the clock forward, I did and it fell off the shelf.....

We went out of town early yesterday morning. When we came home last night, it was about 11:30pm. The clock on the stove was flashing 11:50? What the heck????

Best I can figure, there was a power outage sometime while we were gone, and the power came back on 11 hours and 50 minutes before we got home. The mechanical timer on out tortoise's heat lamp was off by about 1.5 hours, so must have happened around 10:00am.

At my old employer we had about 75-80 wall clocks around the building. Some were battery, some were AC wall power. None were very accurate or correct!

About 10 years ago, they bought a master clock system for thousands of dollars. The main clock gets its time over the radio from the government. That main clock broadcasts a signal to all the other clocks in the building on the hour. They are all two D-cell battery clocks with antennas. If they are off, they will reset themselves on the hour. So if the batteries die, you change them out, and the clock will reset itself within 60 minutes, or, you can push a button on the master and reset them all.

After they spent all the money, and several days hanging them all up, etc... I pointed out that just about everyone in the building had a PC on their desk with a clock on the screen and a phone in their pocket with a clock on the main screen. They told me to shut up.

We have a state senator that has introduced legislation to do away with it, and has reached out to WA, ID, CA, CO, MT, NV, NM, UT, and WY who have similar bills in the works.
Perhaps if a big enough block of the west does away with it, the rest of the country will...oh, what am I saying.

An old supposedly Indian saying: "Only the white man would think they can cut a foot off one end of their blanket and sew it on the other end and have a longef blanket". :)

What a stupid analogy. Maybe you're far enough south so the hours of darkness and sunrise/sunset times don't change that much, but here in the north it makes a big difference. If we stayed on standard time 12 months a year, the sun would rise somewhere around 4am in the summer. Thanks but no thanks.

IMO...It's nothing but an annoying inconvenience crammed down the throats of the majority of Americans twice a year...it's ludicrous...!

IMHO on a 1 to 10 scale of inconvenience it ranks about a 2. I don't know why so many people get their shorts in such a twist over it.

Found the Franklin reference but it was a proposal:

Idea of Daylight Saving Time

The idea of daylight saving was first conceived by Benjamin Franklin during his sojourn as an American delegate in Paris in 1784, in an essay, "An Economical Project." Read more about Franklin's essay.

Some of Franklin's friends, inventors of a new kind of oil lamp, were so taken by the scheme that they continued corresponding with Franklin even after he returned to America.

The idea was first advocated seriously by London builder William Willett (1857-1915) in the pamphlet, "Waste of Daylight" (1907), that proposed advancing clocks 20 minutes on each of four Sundays in April, and retarding them by the same amount on four Sundays in September. As he was taking an early morning a ride through Petts Wood, near Croydon, Willett was struck by the fact that the blinds of nearby houses were closed, even though the sun was fully risen. When questioned as to why he didn't simply get up an hour earlier, Willett replied with typical British humor, "What?" In his pamphlet "The Waste of Daylight" he wrote:

"Everyone appreciates the long, light evenings. Everyone laments their shortage as Autumn approaches; and everyone has given utterance to regret that the clear, bright light of an early morning during Spring and Summer months is so seldom seen or used."
