Kubota BX23S
Guys & Gals,
Kubota has a recall for the BX series tractors... (i dont know who`s effected by this recall..???)
The radiator reservoir cap is plugged with plastic debris from the molding process. (pieces of the plastic molding are still inside the hole...!)
The problem continues... Kubota sent me a newly revised one, turns out the new one was worse than the original one on my BX23s. (i had already previously fixed my original one before the new re-vised cap arrived)
I have called Kubota about it, they are aware of it now after i told them about the faulty cap they sent me... the girl was very surprised BUT very helpful on the phone. I`m not going to worry about it, Kubota will make this right.

BUT.... in the mean time, if any of you folks got the new re-vised cap in the mail, MAKE SURE you check the hole to make sure its cleaned out and 100% cleared BEFORE you install it...!!!
If you do not make sure its clear, you CAN have overheating issues, and possibly toast your engine...!!!

If you haven`t gotten a new re-vised recall cap from Kubota, you can run a drill bit down into the coolant passage hole in the original cap and remove any excess plastic slag/material, it will work just fine after that.

I don't understand... why didn't they just put an overflow on the coolant bottle itself, instead of integrating it into the cap?

I've always wondered that on my BX.

My thoughts too!!! But the biggest problem is the cap itself... the nipple has plastic debris stuck in the hole from the process of how they`re made.
They wern`t deburring the cap and just shipping them regardless. Quality control should have NOT missed this, especially when they sent me a bad revised/recall cap!!!
My original cap wasn`t near as bad as the one they sent me for the recalled replacement!!! Like i said, its a quality issue. Somebody`s sleepin on the job!!!

I`m going to modify my tractor to have a normal recovery tank with a over flow hose routed to the underside of the tractor frame.

Well, I find this rather ridiculous! Embarrassing to say the least. I got my new cap in the mail last week, but didn't even look at it, because the cap on my tractor was fine. I'll have to take a closer look now.

Looks like K-Corp needs to do a little house cleaning....

This entire scenario makes even less sense when you consider - the cooling system on my 2009 Kubota M6040 DOES have an overflow and drop pipe on the coolant tank.

THAT would cost a few cents more to make, so it makes perfect sense.. also, cutting down quality control saves a few cents, if they can get away with it..

Now look at how much it's costing them... not good.

All this gets passed to the next generation of buyers. People like me who will be buying a new machine a few years down the line.

Thats how they should ALL be made, with a drop tube!!! My tractor will have a new tank with a drop tube very quickly. Already found the one i want to use.

For sure, all because of a missing or "poor quality control system" in place.

AGREED..! House cleaning should be done!!!
Maybe you`ll get lucky and yours will be ok. But i`ll bet i`m not the only one that will find this problem with the new recall revised cap that they are sending out as a replacement. I`ll bet theres others out there!
Being that there was an article about it before they sent the new caps out, i thought, well, lets make sure the new recall replacement cap is good before i put it on the tractor.... uhhhhh NOPE, it wasnt.
Actually, it was worse than the original one that was on my tractor when it came from the factory, new one was fully plugged shut... so i cleared my original one out with a drill bit, put it back on the tractor.

What got me was, is when i called KUBOTA, they didnt even bother to ask me to send it back or even ask for a photo of the one they sent me to verify the issue.
Nore did they tell me that they would send me a GOOD new one again. I dont know whats going on at kubota, but they better look at their quality control as well as
what we should be hearing on a corrective action after they sent out bad recall replacement parts to their customer(s).

Some may think this isn`t a big deal about a simple little plastic cap,
but i bet your attitude would be different if you smoked "your engine" due to a $1.00 bad recall part that was sent to you and didnt know, and it TOO, was defective.

Was a bent pin in the molding process. It would have blown the little hose off the nipple of the cap before damaging
anything.

The issue being, the steam escaping from the hose could burn you (hence the recall) and if you didn't notice it, you would be low on coolant when the engine cools down and cannot suck back the coolant to replenish what it vented. That could cause you to run out of coolant and roast the engine.

I find it hard to believe that it was a "bent pin" causing the problem, more like a broken mold pin. (i am a machinist/tool&die maker, cnc engineering tech, i work with alot of different molds & tooling processes)
You can see where the plastic burr/debris inside the nipple was gouged up by a sharp jagged object and piled up the plastic inside, which blocked the nipple`s port hole.

Still waiting for mine and haven't checked the original, what is the DIY fix?

Run an appropriately-sized drill bit through the hole. That will clean it out and let it work as advertised.

What aczlan said is the best procedure to fix the plugged cap issue. (thread #18)
Thats exactly how i fixed my original one. Make sure to look it over inside the nipple to make sure its cleaned out & cleared.

Thank you aczlan

I'll pull it off later today and have a look, just I haven't looked yet and not sure how you check for a blockage, will probably be obvious when I see the part.
