Yeah, been busy and hadn't updated.

Long story short whoever setup the machine never connected the driveshaft. Had someone drive out 100mi one way to sort that out.

However after that start getting a loud metal on metal sound at >5mph.

That ended up being a housing cover that was installed backwards. That was after 3 weeks since someone forgot a work order and tractor sat.

Tractor is back now and ran it for 2-3 hours with no issues since then. To their credit they tried to do the best they could but sounds like they've had a lot of turn over.

Geez, sounds like the dealer had the JV team assemble your new Kubota. Good they took care of you and you’re back in business. Thanks for the update.

Current spec is:
L4760 ROPS
LA1055 loader
R1 ag tires
HD bucket (not included in quotes below)
42" forks

I'm starting this same analysis for a 40hp tractor right now and it appears the model numbers have changed. Is the L4760 now the L4701?

Second question: If size and weight were not of major concern, would you go for a large CAT-1 like the L4701 or a small CAT-2 like the new MX4800. I haven't done any pricing, so that may make my decision for me... I am also only looking at working 5 acres, so the CAT-2 is probably overkill; but is it really that much larger physically than the L4701? If they are the same physical size (roughly), then would there be any downsides to the beefier tractor?

Kubota has a complex product line that takes some getting used to:

The L4760 is part of Kubota’s “Grand L” line of premium tractors with the HST+ transmission and a bunch of other nice options. Heavy, stable, nice, capable, expensive. Available with cab.

The L4701 is the largest of Kubota’s “economy” line of L series tractors. It has a standard HST transmission with treadle pedal. Less expensive, yet capable.

The MX4800 is Kubota’s smallest entry in their “economy utility” line of tractors. It has a 3pt hitch that accepts either Cat 1 or Cat 2 implements. It shares the same engine and chassis with the Grand L line of tractors. Heavy, stable, yet affordable for the level of capability.

Yeah, I'm still also missing a pair of bolts on the loader sub-frame, although that seems less critical since even the Kubota site shows them missing in some cases. Stuff getting setup wrong didn't bug me so much since that stuff happens(even in my line of work). The sitting for 3 weeks was what was frustrating.

Yeah, to add a bit more details on my end since I was looking at the L4701/MX4800 in addition to the L4760.

The MX tractors are a big larger in frame size even if they share a lot of components. For instance the MX__00 is 127.8 L / 95.7 H / 69.7 W while the 4760 is 121.5 L / 95.7 H / 66.5 W with the L3560 begin even smaller. The L4060 and L4760 share the same framesize with just a difference in horsepower.

There's a couple things that pushed me to the L4760:
* Smaller framesize than MX4800 so it'll be easier to fit on our trailer.
* HST+, spent a lot of time fussing with gears on our ford, having a hi/low on the fly is pretty awesome. Since then I've done a lot of loader work this was the right call as there's a bunch of other things that make the transmission awesome.
* The cost in going from the L3901->L4701 was substantial, and once you're at the L4701 a MX4800 is like a $300-500 difference.
* The standard L loaders top out at ~750kg and I wanted to get one that could lift at least 1000kg/~2000lb(LA1055).

Granted the GrandL is a fair bit more than an MX and if you don't mind the larger frame they're a great tractors from all I've heard. Even with my setup snafus I'm still incredibly happy with the L4760. For dealing with round bales/loader work/mowing it really fits the bill for us and should also give us plenty of room to grow as well.

Thanks for that info. That really helps. I'll have to look again. I didn't see the L4760 on the web site. I'll have to look again. Your hint probably helped me find it. Buried under "Grand L" in the site navigation. As complex as their lineup is, they have made it difficult to compare their tractors. They need compare buttons to pull up specs of three or four Kubotas side by side. The compare they have on the site is not useful. It's nothing more than a sales pitch comparing the one tractor you're looking at against selections from other manufacturers. If anyone knows of a good Kubota compare tool for current models, I'd be grateful.

Yeah, comparing them is not easy, even moreso when most of the local dealers here didnt have any Grand Ls available to see.

I ended up plugging all the specs into a spreadsheet which made it a lot easier to compare.
