2020 Jeep Gladiator pickup

I read an article that compared the Jeep to the Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger (new), Toyota and Nissan, and the #1 thing I came away with was the Jeep has a bed 56" wide and the others are all around 44" wide. If you want to haul plywood, sheetrock etc., the Jeep is the one to get.

No, It sounds like the Jeep is only 44.8" between the wheel wells:

Put a board across the wheel wells and put the tailgate in the mid position to haul 4x8 sheets.

One thing that is different than the other trucks...the reach-over into the bed is lower.

Buy a bigger truck if you plan to haul much plywood.

That's what 4x8 trailers are for. :)

It depends on how often you haul it, I guess. For occasional use either a trailer of the above mentioned pickup brackets work. If I was a carpenter I would just get a bigger truck.

I'll keep my 2005 Tacoma until one of the main liners come out with a small or mid sized all electric pickup. An electric pickup, particularly if they put the motors right into the wheel hubs, could be lowered a bit as it would not have to have the bed above the differential.

Wish I'd kept our 1996 Tacoma. We both liked it. Only drive the 2005 beast when we really need a pickup. Only put about 1k/yr miles on it.

The reachover is one of the main reasons I go for a small pickup. Cannot use the big pickups because I cannot reach into them from the side.

4650 # is hefty. Fuel mileage will be abysmal, probably about 16-18 mpg.

The Jeep will have it's niche in the segment with it's own identity, but, I do think it will have a hefty MSRP.

probably going off topic from OP here
looking around through the years re pickups, i notice generally that most domestic & import pickups today are big & hugely expensive. but ironically, most, as a member previously noted, are mall cruisers. so lots of sheet metal & HP, but with less utility than what pickups were originally designed for.

so why the consumer demand for BIGGER & cushier rides? is it a comment on the current domestic consumer? (aside from very specific uses eg agri/construction, etc)

Four doors, a full sized passenger compartment and 5' bed; it's really just another SUV with an open trunk.

& the bed keeps shrinking along with a 2nd mortgage price tag.
