Big difference, as mentioned earlier, between racking up miles on the chassis, but needing motor replaced, or other major issues, to get there, and just running something up to thoes numbers.

My parents had 2 vehiles they ran to over 300k, but both were only getting about 100k per motor. ('93 Plymouth Voyager 3.0 v6, and '83 AMC Eagle 4x4 station wagon with the 258ci 6cyl)

Myself, Ive been a fan of the Ford/International made 7.3L Powerstroke diesel in the Superduty truck platform, currently have 3 of them. Our 2000 Excursion was bought with 243k on it, was told it was factory, and I've found no signs of engine/trans removal to say otherwise. It currently has 307k on it, and other than brakes, wheel bearings, alternator, minor repair type things, had no issues with it. Body is rusting out, I hope to find a southern rust free body to swap the drivetrain into in a couple years.

I have another 2002 F250 superduty with 340k on it, had it since summer 2017, and its been sitting, waiting for a chance to swap the drivetrain in my gas motor crew cab, hopefully next summer.

The other F250 only has about 220k on the chassis, but the motor in it has over 400k. For unknown reasons, the original motor lost compression in one cylinder, I swapped in a motor from a 2003 that my buddy gave me with 378k on it. I had the oil pan off when I swapped it, could still see the cross-hatched hone marks on the visible lower cylinder walls, where the rings slide each revolution. Doing some very concervitive math as to average mph and rpm, thats about 1.5 billion times the rings had slid over thoes areas, and could still see hone marks. Motor runs great, I've got a mild tune/chip in the truck, and put about 12k miles on it since the swap. This drivetrain is going into my project truck, an extended cab spliced onto the back of a crew cab, with a short bed.

Love them 7.3L Powerstrokes!

Some of these remind me of the old farmer that was bragging about his axe. “ had this axe all my life, only replaced the handle three times and the head twice!”

300k on my 2002 Nissan Altima with the 3.5L engine. Oil every 3 grand and I’ve been good to go.

Volvo’s. 1 was close to 300k, one over. My sister had one pushing 400k. All 80’s decade and pretty heavy maintenance. 3k oil changes

There's a big difference between a vehicle lasting X miles with a variety of work done (I guess at least the body and chassis were good?) and a vehicle lasting the same distance with only wear & tear items (brakes, clutch, tires, ball joints, etc).

As others have noted, here in the northeast it's the rust that gets you every time, long before major engine/drivetrain issues. You make a good point though about major repairs vs just maintenance. I've had quite a few vehicles that have made it well into the 200s, but all have needed some sort of repair along the way, be it rust repair, transmission rebuild, etc. Mostly, it's been rust-related, minimal drivetrain or electrical problems. You occasionally hear stories of someone bragging that their 87 tacoma had 375k on it, and the only thing that ever got replaced was the radiator cap (and that was because they lost the old one), but I call BS on those stories. Parts wear out. Rust happens (unless you live in the desert or something).

But when you can buy 100k mile truck for under $5k, why keep a high mileage unit?

Pray tell, where can you get such a truck? I'd expect to pay close to twice that around here for anything in decent shape with that low mileage on it.

I ran my 91 and 97 Chevy 1500 4x4's to 200K. Aside from brakes, water pumps and the like, no suspension or mechanical failures whatsoever. Original drivelines on both. Both were in near perfect condition given the mileage. Traded/sold them since I have a fairly long commute and didn't want to push my luck.

They were both fairly well maintained--Not OCD level though.

Myself F350 is creeping up on miles, I'm only driving about 6k/year now, I've got 200k with just a sensor (cam position) and a variety of wear & tears...
I agree, which is why I included repairs in my original post. Back in the '90s I considered replacing an automatic transmission to be "normal wear and tear". I couldn't get them to last much more than 80,000 miles.

1982 300 D Mercedes Turbo... 330k on original engine and trans... rust free.

My 1967 Fleetwood has 270k... been to all of the Lower 48 States...

A guy on youtube was talking about why GM is closing plants. He seemed to suggest that old GMs were better and lasted longer. I remember, here in Canada, pretty much any five year old vehicle was on it's way to rusting out. My Dad has never been one to spend a nickle more than he had too, but pretty much bought a new car every five years, cash, off the lot. His current Dodge Sprinter is a 2001 model!

I find it funny. Various vehicles had their own problems and peculiarities back then, but compared to now, they were so simple and you wonder how hard it would have been to repair them. Like various CHOKE issues whether it was on a VW bug or a Ford Custom 500!
