Wouldn't that depend on the violation that stimulated the killing?
If it was justifiable, why would you hide the body afterwards?

Below is why you clear out of dodge if the bullets start flying...

Officer killed during Borderline shooting died from friendly rifle fire

I don't carry to protect other people, I carry to protect myself and my loved ones (if we are together). If someone starts shooting and myself and my family can clear out without myself going after a shooter, no hesitation to do so.

With the Walmart shooting in Las Vegas, the CC holder went after the one shooter he saw without reconizing the fact that there was actually another active shooter on the scene. If he (the CC holder) wouldn't of went "after" the shooter, he'd still be alive.

That's always made the most sense to me. Even trained LEOs sometimes identify the wrong offender.

This is one of the reasons I question CC. It CAN be reassuring to be locked and loaded..but when you look at encounters and stats and such you have to wonder if it really does any good. VS the risk of other issues (legal, gun being stolen, etc).

Like carrying one in the chamber vs having to rack the slide. Look how many 'accidental' discharges there are, people shooting themselves, their cars/car seats, etc. That seems to out number the times I've heard/read that there wasn't time to rack a slide.

Again, practice practice practice till it's second nature. Carry only ONE gun so you're not having to think 'ok, which gun do I have today?' - if you always have to rack the slid to shoot then you just do it like second natore.

If being ambushed I don't think it will matter either way. If you can't draw the weapon, it won't matter either way. If all you have to do is brandish to scare them off, it won't matter either way. It's .3 second to rack a slide, if that (with practice), and I would hope you have more time than that to decide if you need to shoot and attempt to injure or kill someone.

And consider, when you're amped up, surprized by the bad guy, your trigger control may be lacking...you may shoot when you don't intend to.

Start watching Active Self Protection (ASP) on Youtube. John has hundreds of live feed videos of deadly encounters. I am not saying he is the expert on what happened or should have happened, or that this is in any way training for folks watching. Just watch the videos to see just how fast people get stabbed, shot, mauled. You have very little time to react from ambush....and if you are being attacked it is almost always from ambush.

I shoot lots of targets of all kinds.
I'm a photographer, and took some old samples, 16x20, 20x24, portraits to the range to shoot. Felt VERY uncomfortable - now was it the realistic image or because I knew the person in the picture? Can't say for sure.
But I was surprised at my mental thoughts and hesitation, how uneasy I felt.

I've shot many a critter too -from varmints and pests and birds to having to put down my own animals (which isn't so comforable either), but nothing like shooting a photo of someone I know.

Now does that mean I'd hesitate to shoot a perp? I doubt it.

Would I hit the perp? that is all together another question. rabbits and ground hogs in the yard, no problem.

Last winter at the barn the girl friend screamed and yelled 'get the gun' I cam a runnin with a 12g pump to find an opossum in a 12x12 foot horse stall. 5 shots later i got him. WTH? I shoot cowboy action at close distance at ground targets...shoulda been a no brainer to hit the critter..but first 4 shots missed. I had to calm down and concentrate.

You don't get that time if you're being attacked though.
I may have talked about his in other threads but it's worth repeating here.

My wife, before she retired, worked in a Pharmacy. She had a LOT of prescription druggies in the store. She often commented about how it made her feel uncomfortable. She said, maybe I need to CC? I said can you shoot someone? She said I don't know. I said can you point a pistol in someone's face and pull the trigger until it clicks? She said no. I said you should not CC. It will only get you shot or pistol whipped with your own weapon.

So her and I understand each other. I know if there's trouble it's on me. She knows if there's trouble to get low.

A couple of thoughts...

Last night... or better I should say early this morning, twice I was rousted out of bed to respond to first a glass break detector at work and later a glass break and general fire alarm.

The second arrival I was met with 5 patrol cars... two fire engines and better be sure I had my hands in plain site and turned on my flashers as I arrived... you can make sure I was not walking up from any shadows and Law Enforcement has my description and vehicle description.

Sadly... this is happening more and more... the nearby county Psychiatric Hospital has a lot of 72 hour holds and then discharges them and more and more make there way to where I work... many make a beeline to the business district and we are on the way.

Several times this year as recent as two months ago... windows were shattered by a released psych patient

Last night... it was a released patient that wanted to go back because it was cold outside... so he forced the locked door and pulled the fire alarm... again... this was my second visit this morning... the first had broken bottle glass at a side entrance and the breaking of glass triggered the alarm.

I only mention this because there are a lot of unbalanced people out there... many would like nothing more than to get picked up and taken in... it is not a deterrent... they welcome it.

This person was well known to the local PD... the officers said here we go again... over the last 4-5 years... he has had several incidences a week... even smashing out windows throwing rocks at cars and mail trucks and freely admits it.

California is going to a no bail system... because it is not equitable to those without resources which means a disproportionate number of those locked up are minority... unless you put someone in the Hospital or have a gun or domestic violence charge... you are back on the street if even picked up.

Walking the streets are dangerous... getting out of your car is dangerous... law enforcement is frustrated because they are dealing with a core group over and over again draining resources...

I really think people underestimate the potential for exposure to harm and have no idea of the revolving door of criminal justice.

I would have said they tried to run me down with the truck. I fired in self defense !

Kinda hard to do with clear evidence the bullets went through the back of the cab.

It also is a regional thing. If I was faced with that type of risk I would either move, or begin self defense training... and not just with firearms.

I think you really said quite a bit there.

More of cultural issue in my opinion. There is a huge drug culture that perpetuates crime in our country.
