Forgive my lack of the right terms;

They stapled up some wire mesh, mixed up some commercial grade quickcrete, smeared the concrete on the back of the rocks and smashed them into place. It was all very simple. They were very particular on which stone went where. They did a lot of cutting and chipping to get the rocks just right.

They did suggest that I wait a couple weeks then wash the rock faces off with water, let it dry, then wash with water and a small amount of muriatic acid mixed in. Then wash again with plain water. Said it would really bring out all the color in the rocks.
Pardon me for digging deeper, but was the wire mesh stapled to plain old 1/2in sheet rock?

I also like wood, my wife often wants me to paint bare wood and I will not do it unless it is poor quality wood.

It is a huge trend here... paint it all...

When my brother sold his home where I did the remodel and additions... we used all stain grade wood and no filler... had moldings milled to match original...

Several Realtor friends came through and advised to paint it all!!!

I said over my dead body... so we sold for a record price and the buyers said finally a home with natural quality wood and hardware...

As a property manager... painted cabinets and doors are constant maintenance issues... stained freshens up very nice...

Be curious to know as well. Normally they use lathe screws (big wide flat head) and screw the metal lathe down through the wallboard (sheetrock or plywood) so that the screws hit studs.

The wire mesh was stapled to the OSB that was nailed to the 2X4 studs. I do not remember how thick the OSB was, but more than 1/2" for sure. No sheetrock was put on that wall.

Here is a "as it was happening picture".

I love watching those guys work, poetry in motion. The way they flip the stones around and chip is amazing.

What kind of staples? Those stones are heavy. You are not really in earthquake country so that is good.

They were big staples; 1.25" long and an inch wide. Just guessing, I've never seen staples that big and they were shooting them in like they were free. I guess to everyone but me they were free.:laughing:

Here's an update;

The outside of the house is nearly complete. Chimney is all that's left.

Finally got insulation is the attic/crawl space. Nice to not heat the county anymore.

Waiting for counter tops that are supposed to go in tomorrow. Once they are done the plumber is ready to finish the sink and wash basins.

Appliances should come Thursday, this has been a nightmare getting the stuff we ordered 2+ months ago. Once we get them the electrician can finish up his stuff, he is ready any time.

If all goes as planned we will move in next week.:thumbsup::drink:

I'll try and get a few pictures later today.

Lynn. I was going to ask on the good morning page how it was going. Glad that it's coming to a end. Looks like you will still have time this winter to have some fun in the snow.

We only have about 16 inches snow on the flat. But I see a lot of trucks with sleds going up to the Uinta's. Hope you have a chance to enjoy it this winter.

I like the house

CWB.
