Replace windshield for ford F350 - are all replacements the same?

My local State Farm agent recommended SafeLite. So..... they must have something going on together. Really hard to beat $0 for a new windshield.

True, if "0" is your deductible. If your deductible is $500 then it's on you

No - not the situation in my case. I have $100 deductible on the F-150. State Farm paid the entire bill for the windshield replacement.

Again, No. I'm sure we both have the same State Farm. I'm also sure that the local agent has some sort of working arrangement with SafeLite. Why else would they recommend this company and no other.

Coverage is based on state rules. Some states require glass replaced at no cost .
Glass is the same ,installation skill is only difference

I used to have a Ford F-250 Safelite replace the windshield they came right to my office and did it while I was working. Usually there is no deductible or out-of-pocket cost for glass replacement.

I have had safelite replace many windshields, both in store and mobile. Last one was on my brand new subaru, took a rock less than a month old. They used a genuine subaru windshield.
I have a $50 glass deductible, it used to be $0.

We have zero deductible windshield coverage in FL. if you carry comprehensive coverage. When the windshield on my 99 Mustang cracked I called the insurance company and told them I wanted OEM glass. First guy shows up in a ratty old van wearing shorts and his belly hanging out. The glass was different color tint on the top so I told him to take it back. Called the insurance company and told them I wanted a different installer and OEM glass. They gave me some installer options then told me my car was too old to qualify for OEM glass. I chose a reputable installer from the list and asked them if I could get OEM glass and they said no problem. They ordered the exact Ford part number for my car from the dealer and it looked just like the glass the first guy brought out. I let them go ahead and install it and chalked it up to Ford changing suppliers. I figured it would bug heck out of me every time I got in the car but I haven't really thought about it again until now.

Man, I could use a new windsheild, mine being all sand blasted!

I think it's not easy to make a windsheild. And not something you can make cheap and for all the different applications. So my guess, is aside from quality of labor, the actual products are probably all about the same.

I would agree with this statement. Too many process to go through to make these things for them to be made by the guy next door

Safelite has replaced several windshields for us and did a great job. Whether we called safelite directly or USAA, they got each other on the phone at the same time and we paid $0 in every case.

I've had a number of them done on my Jeep JK and my Ram. A couple of times I asked the guys if they were all he same, factory vs aftermarket. "They are the same and they are all DOT approved, with the exception of any logos" was his answer. And so far, I can't find any other difference. Jeep has a small Jeep symbol on the glass that I do not need and raises the price $70. After a couple of Safelite bids of $325. -$375. I am happy to pay the company I go to $180. - $200. I'm done in about 45 minutes.

Saying it's "free" through your insurance company is fine, but after a few replacements, err, claims, your rates my reflect the difference. Free isn't free, as somebody pays and Safelite is the highest priced company I've found. Lots of advertising overhead, for one thing, and that has nothing to do with quality glass.
