Garage door opener, never out of range, always have, & never runs out of Bat

To me, it's just like your wallet. Carry as little in there as possible. If it's lost or stolen, your life will be that much easier.

So many people and companies have fingers in ones pie. But just try and talking to them when something goes wrong. If you can, they all claim it's someone elses issue.

The remote may be nice but like on my garage door it takes proprietary button to open door from inside not just set of "closed" contacts from relay...

What brand is that?

I have been using my phone to open the garage the last two years. When in my truck I hit the button on the visor but all other times I use the phone. The app also tracks when the door moves and I like the ability to see if the door is closed from anywhere. I can also give people full or temporary access so they can access my house if needed

My kids don't even have garage door openers in their cars

Here is another version that is a buck and a half cheaper with a much simpler looking board.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071GCDGQ...&pd_rd_r=5ab124cc-27c5-11e9-be65-17f4f8daa818

Actually thinking about trying one on my gate. I also want to rig up a camera on the gate. An intercom feature would be nice too but I can use cell for talking.

The relay gives you momentary contact, I think you have that figured out. There is other styles that use the same app, haven't played with those.

For your gate I think, you would not even need internet to the gate. The relay and a wireless router at the gate. Then for those that need access share the connection which is password protected. Of course if you want to open it for say a plumber, to get in, from work then you would need internet access. Then feed back for when the gate is actually closed and the plumber is not walking off with half your house would be nice. That would be the camera. Which I too would like to rip up. The system I bought was wireless and the wireless signal from the camera interferes with the wifi signal hug:mur:

For me it is simple it is about the ice. Getting out of the car, the loader or the 4 wheeler to open the door and slipping on the ice in the winter is the issue. Open the door get out on the level safe ground. So, i need to have the opener with me and working.

Slipping and falling on the ice is bad! I have had my hip replaced, knee and shoulder surgery. I want to be able to get out in the winter. When I had my hip replaced I had to take the 4 wheeler from the house to the shop, getting off to open the door was not an option.

So, for me for three doors, for a system that is reliable and I will always have with me was $80.

Now I have spent money on technology that has not been worth it or more trouble than it is worth. That would be the video camera system. I am generally pretty careful.

Technology has its place. if it was not for technology there is a lot of things we would not have today. It is thinking about it and using it and spending your hard earned money on it wisely that is key. In my case this technology has enhanced my life, it was cheap and easy to do and it should be shared.

It is change for the sake of change that I have issue with and if it ain't broke don't fix it. :)

Tried it with single push button (momentary contact) from old system.... NOPE did not work.... Added proprietary push button and success.......

And it won't function unless safety photo cell transmitter/receiver is connected, thought I could just strap it out... Nope....

Actually you don't need the internet. You just have to have the app on a cell phone and have it connect to your wifi network. So, for those of you that are worried about it working when it is 40 miles away use an older phone, that has no cell service and have it connect just to you wifi network. As for internet reliability..... don't need it for system to work. May have to hang out in front of the garage door while the phone connects to your wifi network but it will work.

Do you understand WiFi (wireless fidelity) is just short range signal, which for most cases are used to connect to the internet through whatever type of provider you have, whether it is cable, satellite, DSL, or remote hotspot by connecting to a cell tower. In order to have a wifi network (unless it is just a close connection with another wifi capable device like a printer, or garage door) you have to have an internet connection. Most wifi signals only transmit ~150 ft. If you live in the sticks with no cable or cell service, or no satellite internet at your residence, you have no way of having a wifi internet network in your home to receive a distant signal. Also the app on your cell phone has to connect to the internet to send the information, (unless you are in close proximity to your wifi device to receive the signal). That can happen through a cell signal or some wifi hotspot. No cell service or wifi hotspot, and the app has no way to "talk" to your system. You most definitely need internet in your home and where you are remotely with your phone, for this to work. Just sayin'.

How come when the internet goes down you can still print, share files from PC to PC. Like i said you need a wireless router. and the devices need to be on your(same) network. When you phone comes into the range of your wireless network, it should work. Same way you can still print, and connect wireless on your own network when the internet is down. I have not tested it.
I have jumped to conclusions also without thoroughly reading.
Wireless signals can go a whole bunch further than 150ft. needs to be directional and line of sight. Our internet comes from in town. which is 5 miles away with a wireless signal using something like this, Ubiquiti Networks - Products Also your cell phone uses a wireless signal that moves from tower to tower over a wireless network, going more than 150ft. We have a wireless network on our property that you switch from hot, spot to hot spot, when you move around. All with in the same network.

I got a Chamberlian Wi-Fi enabled and use the MyQ app. I've had 3 years come July. I love the thing. I can find current status. UP/Down. I can tell when the door was open and closed with the history function. It's quite handy. I have a college age boy at home and I can monitor (used as front door) to make sure he's doing what he needs too. Also. Using it as a front door I can make sure he's opened when expected. Late night of work I can see that he's made it home. Also, for the uh oh...did I close the door? question. Check status and shows that the door did close. Never once have I accidently opened/closed. Non issue. Adding a bay this summer. As with most smart things you can name them. So. Of course, I'll be adding one for the doors I put in. Not much extra cost for the added security and peace of mind.
