Running 78 mph in a truck that catches a lot of air is actually working the engine pretty hard. Not near as hard as rowing but harder than you think.

Good point. Around here, that is just keeping up with the big rigs!! The others run 85-90. Insane.

I was concentrating more on the rpms. I figured it would be most efficient there being in the power band. I run this truck at this speed 5 days a week and average 19mpg. Never gave much thought to what you said, guess pushing a brick thru air at that speed is working it pretty good.

Should have said towing not rowing. A picture of some guy in the back of a pickup sitting on a bench with oars over the side flashed through my brain.

Yeah, rowing at 78 MPH would be hard! Getting a Ram truck up on a plane, would be something to see. And OMG, the wake! :D

But I do believe it would row better with synthetic oil

Man have we taken this thread in a whole new direction!!! That is cool right there!

It cracks me up every time I see it! There are now records being set for distances on rivers. The faster you go the more the water acts as a solid. And as long as the engine doesn't quit, or some other malfunction, you're golden. Hilarious! Just don't slow down. "We don't need no stinking boat!".

Everything that can be done, will be done. And everything that is being done, will be done in the most extreme way possible. Love it!

Back to the truck, though boring! What tires do you recommend? The truck now has transforce at firestone 275/70/18. They have worn poorly for some reason. I do not know if the previous owner rotated them, but at 27k miles they are on wear bars already. I am thinking of going to a 285, a hair wider.
