I just finished cleaning up 4" more of fluffy snow this afternoon. 12" total today. More snow on the way tomorrow night and Fri. That little 54" snowblower is doing a great job. I'll post a couple pics tomorrow me shoveling roofs. blower5.JPG

That's one thing I love about CT. It is always sunny with blue skies the day after it snows. Today was no exception. Snowed 7 inches yesterday and today was sunny with blue skies.

5 and half HOURS? How many driveways do you plow? 2 gallons over that much time is not bad at all though!

5 including the group mail box at the corner. 2 of them are real short, the mail boxes, it takes longer to road the tractor there than it does to clean them out. The old guy around the corner has the most area to do. My place is the most time consuming, as I need to pick up the snow and relocate it.

It takes me 2-3 hours.
I plow mine, my folks and my neighbors drives and while all are relatively short for rural driveways, they all have little push outs and odd spots that take the extra time to clear.
Mine is also the most time consuming as I clear my woodpiles and around the house to get to the basement.

I am kind of like Waldon, same area, a little north and east of him. But my drive is at least 3/8 of a mile, plus cleanup for parking and turn arounds. Weds I started at 6am clearing my drive, no extra clean up, 2 hours. left about 10am for 4 drives to clear in Gaylord/Waters area. Then cleared out 2 storage barn accesses about an hour. A good 9+ inches of snow, plus one that is heavily drifted. Stopped for fuel and got home after 5pm. Had to do drive again. This time I had the wife run the BX2230 with the cab and blower, while I took the B26TLB with snow plow blade on loader arms to clean turn arounds, at the road, etc. Came in at 8pm. So yeah, Gaylord/Vanderbilt has seen a bit of snow fall this week. Jon

So that's where all our snow has gone this year! We have had 2 plowable storms this year. 8" in November and 7" two weeks ago. We're set for another 6" tomorrow. We frequently have 60" of snow a season. Of course, I really think it is my fault. I bought a new to me snowblower for the back of my tractor last Spring.

Some of it's gone up here. About time. Seems the last few winters all the major storms tracked well to the south of us...coastal & southern New England would get buried, we'd get 3-4". Not good in the heart of snowmobile country.
This year's been more normal snowfall and temperature-wise, though a bit more rain than I'd really like.

Ahhh, but when you are dressed properly it is so enjoyable to be outside in the fresh air. One thing is for sure... There are no rattle snakes waiting to attack (see the current "rural living" thread). I'll take snow for a "few" months of the year over tornados, hurricanes, oppressive heat, or attacking critters.
We are promised a foot on Wednesday - sure hope it comes through!

I'm with you. Yeah, our winters are long and cold, but there's always something to do if you want to. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Both weeks of summer are beautiful too!

Exactly. The best cure for SAD (seasonal affective disorder) also seems to be getting outside. Find a dang way to enjoy the outdoors no matter what the weather. Cooped up indoors for 6+ months... no bueno. The problem down here in the southeast part of the state, is that the snow goes away quite often, and then you're left with cloudy, muddy, or often yet still quite cold and icy days, where it just kinda sucks to be outdoors, no matter what you're into.

You got that right. I had SAD pretty bad back in my 20s, didn't know what it was, but I was just sleepy and depressed all the time. Living in an apartment, working 8-5 didn't get me outside much. Once I realized what the problem was, I made the necessary lifestyle changes and the SAD all but went away.

You're right about winters with little/no snow being worse than anything. Can't do the usual winter activities, but it's too cold to do anything else outside.

We've got a little blizzard happening up here today. Seems we need to get out and have some fun in it!

Six inches more snow today , were at 117" now for the winter and more heading our way. The GFS models are showing no let up til mid March . Pretty normal for Gaylord. I took these four pics today . You can see the snowbanks out in the street by the church are as high as the top of the back of my tractor seat. Getting tricky to see at intersections. pic 2 shows drifts by our front picture window. pic three show snowbanks in my driveway and pic four shows my back shed and two roof rakes ready to pull more snow off the roof. banks1.JPGbanks2.JPGbanks3.JPGbanks4.JPG
