The question is getting blurred here.... In the original post its about a "Grab Link" not a "Grab Hook"...

As I read the problem, the chain links won't accept the grab link 'pin'.
What I do in those cases is to take the last chain link and either hit it with a 5 lb hammer to make it open up (hold link with vice grips) or heat it and drive a taper drift punch to open up the last link.
Then B4 it cools dip it in oil to re temper that expanded link.

Either one works 4 me.

Done that too with a punch.

Well now, the grab link can be attached by itself onto any chain link the small end fits onto.

The question in the Original post that states:
Also has to be able to move/rotate easily within the new fastener that will be mounted to the end of the chain.
Leads to the discussion about hooks.

Can a grab hook can grab a small end of a grab link? I guess we would have to try that but it would just give you a choker. :D

I was surprised to see the prices for Grab Links. What makes them so expensive? Or perhaps I was simply shopping at the wrong places...

Since you didnt mention how much you were seeing as far as pricing......
based on what the OP posted, the two from his original link is 8-12 bucks.
seems reasonable to me based on cost of manufacture, liability insurance and mark up.

Prices I saw were $25 - $40 each. Do you know of a less expensive site to purchase from?

Thanks.

Purchased one recently in a local store for $10. Heavy duty and nice quality.

I use the keyhole on my choker chains because they don稚 accidentally disconnect. I found grab hooks on chokers will unhook frequently with the roll and tumble in winching.
