I did a few searches but I ain稚 that savvy. Has somebody somewhere got a chart for cross reference?
Thanks.

The REAL answer is, a John Deere 850 = YM2500 TOTALLY. right down to the last bolt. Not the paint. LOL One is JD green and the other Yanmar red.
I've owned a JD-850.
I now own a Yanmar YM2610. The YM2500 and the YM2610 has only 2 distinct differences.
1. YM2500 (JD-850) is gear shifting. YM2610 is PowerShift
2. YM2500 (JD-850) is single PTO speed of 540. YM2610 4-speed PTO speed selection. 540, 6XX, 8XX, 1080.
I have the JD owners manuals and shop manuals. I have the Yanmar Parts service manual that is YM2500/YM2610 (along with other weird things like YM1601 and a few others in that book with related components).
The JD books and the Yanmar books are like the SAME when looking at the EXPLODED View Diagrams !!!
The Yanmar book is written in Japanese. I can only read the roman numbered part numbers that align with the John Deere numbers.
I love my YM2610. It's a great machine. Not too tiny like a Ym1500, not too big like a YM3810. I can go to a JD parts places or a Yanmar parts place and get PARTS ! Locally in town or at NAPA or via UPS/FedEx with Fredricks or Hoye. Great to have the ability to keep the tractor going for years/decades and pass it down to the kids. If you got a Yanmar that is more rare, parts picking is going to be much harder.
Jboc, hope you got an eye on a YM2610 then. The PowerShift gives you a 'live' PTO ability over the YM2500/JD-850 that is gear/clutch driven.
