Ford 1710 will crank but not start

HI Grateful4,

I think it is nowhere any kind of electrical problem. The engine is cranking, just maybe needs fuel (or at the right time). Here are two videos of my 1710 starting. I think the preheater does not work any more, or does not get red for at least a minute or more. Heck with it, starts just fine.

Ford 1710 Tractor Cold Start - YouTube is a start with the tractor cold. Maybe 70 degrees F.

Ford 1710 Tractor Warm Start - YouTube is a start after a few minutes of warming up.

Looking forward to your progress.

Hello,

I recently bought a 1710 and it is also hard to start, it does put out heavy black smoke when turning over. Did you ever find the problem with yours?

Yes, I sold the tractor actually to a guy with 4x4 1710 and a blown engine. He has a shade tree mechanic friend. It was a compression issue, the engine needed to be rebuilt.

He replaced a bad rod, bearing, rings and gaskets. He spent 25 hard hours and a lot of time on the cylinder with emery cloth. The engine runs like new for now but will need work again in the future I'm sure.

So if you have to pay someone to repair the engine... you're looking at quite the expense. This model tractor was absolute garbage! I had so many people call wanting a "good engine" because their engine was toast. It's like many Ford model tractors or vehicles... Fix Or Repair Daily. There are some great models out there but this isn't one.

Hope that helps!
