Deck over trailer for tractors

Must be why I see deckover trailers rolled over all the time......Not!

Take a trip back to reality.

Got it!
Suspension bridges are sometimes closed for wind because high center of gravity trailer loads are never a safety issue.

I have a 20 plus five Big Tex, standard height on 16 inch wheels. It is not long enough for my tractor with 3008 bush hog mower. I bought the trailer, mower and a bunch more stuff in a package deal, slightly used. I have to pull the tractor all the way forward, with loader over the gooseneck, then let the mower down, and back up away from the front till the wheels are on the ramps. Might be better if the bottom of the ramps were solid. My tractor is a Kubota M7040 for size comparison. I am considering trading up to a longer trailer, just to make it easier to load, without having to move the tractor as much when loading.
Also, my daughter drives a Hyundai Elantra, and even with a five foot dovetail, the car will not go up on the trailer. She had a flat tire, and no spare so I took the trailer to get her home. Got it halfway on the trailer before it bottomed out. Wrecker was called to save the day. If I could get a longer, less of an angle dovetail on my trailer, instead of a five foot...a seven, then all would be great!
Point is, it is easier to load a tractor on a big trailer, than a little one!

More because of the amount of sail area on the side of an empty (17,000# curb weight) semi trailer.
Take that same 17,000# curb weight van trailer and put 40,000# of product in it (with the load COG at ~9' off of the ground) and you will be hard pressed to flip it over with a gust of wind.

I have a pierced frame 25+5 deckover gooseneck trailer and stack it double with round rolls of hay and have never really felt uncomfortable as far as my loads center of gravity and I have drove out of some very uneven fields. I do have a 5' dovetail with mega ramps and I would encourage the mega ramps to anyone buying new.

Depends on your definition of a gust of wind. If you had been at Bruce's Truck Stop right outside of Tulsa, Ok in the early 90's (1993?) then you might change your mind. Loaded semi trucks turned over and destroyed by the wind. What a mess!

I bet if they were lowered a foot that would have made all the difference. Not

My definition would not include extraordinary events such as tornados...
It would be the commonplace weather conditions that trucks delivering/picking up cargo at my place of employment run into.

36 photos, countless ads. Not a single overturned deckover equipment trailer to be seen.
Apparently they are safe even in a tornado!

Thank you David this helps. So I don’t plan to load the big tractor with a implement but only to move it with the front loader attached. Only plan to pick it up from the seller then haul it in for repairs etc on rare occasions as needed. But I do have other smaller tractors though that I would plan to move more often. Some with loaders and bushhogs, disk harrows etc and others with no loader just implements. Right now my 22’ standard equipment trailer works great for everything other than the new tractor. The new to me tractor is a Massey 2660HD cab with MWFD and loader. So my main concern with going to a deckover is that it would cause issues with loading the ones with implements as I don’t have a good feel for the amount of angle increase when using them. So you feel 22’ is enough length for just the big Massey and front loader? Tractor itself has 90” wheel base and is 13’-14’ long. That doesn’t include the loader so not sure what the total length will be. Without a implement I should be ok though correct with a 22’?

If you have real concerns about deck over trailers and COG you probably should hire your hauling done.

I agree.
