Friend’s 9-year old daughter in surgery after stray dog attack.

The mom had left the garage door up for visitors. Guests enter their home thru the garage and mud room. The dog CAME IN THE HOUSE and attacked the girl in the mud room. The mother and a guest lady literally choked the dog off the child and the mother carried the thrashing biting dog to the door and threw it outside. The muscles in the child痴 left leg are 壮hredded? Don稚 know if she will ever walk properly again.

The dog is a Pitbull mix and was collared but no name or tag.

He/she my have a tattoo or a micro chip in its ear. Dog control or a vet can track them down.

A syntax question; when you say strays are you referring to any dog at large? To me a stray is an animal which some douche bag has abandoned.
A dog at large can be a stray, or a pet of somebody who is too irresponsible to take care of it and keep it under control.

When they are on your land attacking your livestock, pets, or kids, it doesn't really matter what they are called. In the latter case though,The dog was just being a dog although you do what you have to do and they pay the price. .I've always lamented that you can't also shoot the owner.

It isn't his fault his owner is irresponsible. Yet they will act like it's your fault that you had to shoot Fido, i.e.; "This is the first time that he ever ran away," "he would never hurt a soul," blah, blah, blah...

At the very least just as some people shouldn't have kids, there are too many people out there who shouldn't have pets.

I hope that the kid which the OP posted about makes a full recovery, and doesn't grow up to be afraid of animals.

There's always certain people who think that keeping a mean dog is OK. When I was growing up the people next door to our camp had a Chihuahua which would chase and bite at us every time that we walked past the house. OK, that doesn't qualify as mean. Yet the people living next to our friend's camp had a GSD running loose while they were gone who would also chase us. One day I was walking past when he came out and bit me right at the waist of my jeans, tearing them and just breaking the skin. I never told anybody, and for 25 years l I aways thought that it was my fault because the dog bit me when I was walking down a public road. That attitude changed when I got my first dog; I won't tolerate a mean animal.

The young lady is up walking!!!!

Mom said the dad cried the entire time she was up, from relief. It was a slow walk and apparently painful but she walked. She has not shed a single tear thru the ordeal.

The mom said she didn’t think there was much damage at first but the EMTs were frantic when they looked at the leg. They had surgeons waiting when they arrived at the hospital. Straight from ambulance to surgery.

Dog is in custody. Will be held for ten days to check for rabies and then destroyed. No owner found yet. Or they are keeping it quiet. Last attack on child by pitbull caused an uproar when dog was released back to owner. The judge quickly reversed order and owner changed mind and wanted valuable dog destroyed. People were openly threatening both.

That's good news. She sounds like a pretty plucky kid, hopefully she will make a full recovery.

I have more tolerance for chihuahuas than pit bulls coming on my land.

We have issues with one neighbors Yorkie, and another neigh or chihuahua. Both dogs think they are 10ft tall and bullet proof. And try to attack my Shepherd when we are out walking on the public road, or even in my front yard.

I got bit by my Shepherd by accident in one of those attacks. I was holding my shepherds head up so she couldnt get the yorkie, then reached down to swat the Yorkie and got caught by my shepherds tooth when she growled and snapped at the Yorkie.

Neighbor came out and snatched the Yorkie up. I informed the neighbor that I got bit in the fracas, and if his dog comes at us again, I will let my Shepherd end it. I then had the same discussion with the other neighbor after there chihuahua went after us in my front yard.

Both times my dog was on leash, there's were running loose.

I let my shepherd lay down the law after holding him back several times from a mutt up the road.. I also carry a 40 while walking my dog up here in the woods.. Stray pitbulls, moose and bears around here..

It would go a long way if penalty for attack was makeing certain BOTH, owner and dog was never able to breed again.

Some times you just need the 3 s method. I would try to find a stays owner though first.

Now if it attacked livestock or a human no problem dispatching it with whatever method is at hand.
