:confused2: . . . wow, actually all dogs can do harm . . . the bigger the worse harm . . . after all folks they are animals ;)

And human beings are animals as well...

I guess we'd be considered a mammal's technically, including dogs I guess.

And apparently all six dogs were owned by a neighbor, and at the current time of the report, no charges have been filed.

Sorry, the dogs owner should face the same fate as the dogs, being put down. Plain out murder by the homeowner who owned the dogs. I'm just surprised something like this hasn't happened before with the same dog owner. Generally, their (dog owner) leaves don't change colors so to speak.

Call me a bad parent but my son has been packing a pistol when he went out in the woods since he was young. I always told him you have no idea what youre going to run into.

Ive had dogs since I was in diapers and the only two that ever bit me was the two black chihuahuas we had. Four legged satans.

No child should have to go through that fear and trauma. I wish her and her family the best.

There are a lot of irresponsible dog owners and a lot of them are pitbull owners.. I have never actually seen a pit on a leash and a respectable looking person on the other end of it.. I have relatives with pitbulls and they to are not all that bright..

Before Pits it was Rotties, before that it was Dobermans, when I was a kid it was German Shepherds. You don't hear much about those anymore because the morons who used to own them have found another "breed for toughs" in the Pit. Meanwhile responsible pet owners still keep Rotties, Dobermans, and GSDs.

Sig, good on you for fostering. Our Sammie is a rescue. She was 20 months when we got here. First owner got her as a puppy, paid big bucks to a professional trainer, and just before the one year guarantee expired, took her back and said they didn稚 want her. Four other couples looked at her but she wouldn稚 have anything to do with them. She warmed to my wife first, then our then 16 year old. We had an adjustment period. She tried to claim my wife. When I learned what was going on, I threw a bean bag at here when she tried it. She warmed to me soon after that. Now she follows me everywhere and won稚 hardly leave my side. She takes a firm, gentle hand, exercise, attention, some attention and kindness and she is completely devoted. The trainers did a great job training us to keep her trained.

Rsky, glad to hear the little girl is getting better and going home soon. My thoughts, prayers and well wishes for her. I agree it looks like a crackdown on large dogs is coming for your area.

Like Sig, I won稚 leave my dog with a child. There is just too much that can go wrong. My brother had a Lab that was as gentle as could be. He bit my niece once when no adult was around. It seems the nieces friend was tormenting the Lab and backed it into a corner. Supposedly my niece tried to comfort the dog and got one bite. That caused quite a stir in the family for several years.

Some dogs seem to just flip between being friendly and blind rage and back in a heartbeat. Pit bulls in particular have that reputation. But any dog can do it. A neighbor has a mutt, mostly boxer but some pit also I suspect and that dog is s light switch. Can be tolerant, almost friendly one second and the next it wants to remove my liver. The owner understands I don稚 want but I will if I have to. Since we realized that he put up a secure fence and has done a good job keeping it home.

I知 sure pits get blamed a lot for things they didn稚 do but my guess is they do do a lot of damage and their reputation for traumatic damage certainly exists. Those dogs take a strong responsible owner. Unfortunately there are some people who are lousy owners and have no business with big strong potentially dangerous dogs.

I hope the girl continues to recover and somehow people near you become much better dog owners.

I wouldn't leave a dog alone with a kid either. I've seen my last dog sitting in the truck watching kids in a playground just drooling, she wanted to join them so badly. Yet even if they're just playing a 90 lb dog with a 40 lb kid is a bad combination. When she was old and arthritic we were at a friend's house and her 2 year old grandson walked up to my dog and started poking her in the eye; it happened so quickly there was nothing I could do. Luckily she just turned her head, and I wasn't long getting the kid out of there.

I completely agree with you. The terrier breed for some reason has a stigma that some people find attractive for the wrong reasons IMO. When we came across our dogs per the Terrier breed, it was purely by accident. That said, after dealing with the breed over the years, the best dog I've ever owned was a "pit bull", and that was purely by accident that I came to that conclusion.

That said, special care is needed dealing with a ANY breed of dog that is big enough and strong enough to cause damage to a human being, particular kids. We always treated bigger and stronger dogs differently just due to the possible damage they could do.

That said, the most "ferocious" dog we've ever owned was a 15 lb jack russell mix. She almost died tangling with a venomous snake, and watching her pull a dead ground hog twice her weight up a hill was kind of impressive. She was the one also almost killed by not backing down from another dog in foster care.

The problem with you is you're using common sense. Bigger issue is people don't have it.

How many times do read about prior agression with a certain dog and yet the owner still doesn't take precautions to ensure that the dog isn't put into a bad situation?

The reality is human beings being a dogs master, we should all show superior intelligence. Generally not the case in a lot of these cases that make the news.
