Why do people not want to work?

When some one says that they can't hire any one, what they are really saying is that they don't want to pay a wage that any one would be interested in.

Are we getting ready to vote in a socialist economy regime? Every body is forced to work the government runs everything to capture the resources to sustain some form of life. Time to really analyze where we want to go. Read the history of the last 100 years on how socialism was the first step to communism. Nazism evolved from the German Socialist Democrat Party. We now have a US Socialist Democrat Party at work on the next election. Scary!

Well, so fare no socialist run country have worked, Venezuela was the star of the socialist movement around the western world, it did crash and burn as expected, so the count is still a big fat zero.

So belive the US becoming a socialist state is in the sci-fi category.

Or perhaps they can't afford it, take your pick. Our minimum wage just went to 11.00$/hr; it didn't take long for prices to go up accordingly. Fluff items such as pizza slices I used to pay $2.00 for are now $2.50. The good thing is that I really don't need that junk food for the ride home, so am getting more diligent about packing a better lunch. Working at a convenience store was never meant to be a job to support a family.

Well, if the pay is to much you have three options, close down, automate or find products with higher margin. If people can find better payed jobs it's good, no point to keep low margin businesses alive.

In my day, if one jobs pay was insufficient, you had a second or even a third job. You did what had to be done.

I don’t blame you for packing a better lunch but remember that the convenience store sales are down and yet the wages rise.

Not a good long range picture as your min. wage goes to $12 in January.

Well, if the margin is so low that they can't pay salary to attract people to work for them they don't really have any business.

When people go to Walmart for the lower prices they don't have any business either. Do you regularly pay extra for an item simply to support a local business?

It happens if I get value for my money, knowledge or good service. But small stores are dying, suppose it's the same in US as here. Today automation are coming everywhere, do it your self check out are even in very small grocery shops, makes a difference when margins are very small on almost all goods.
