How to Connect Stuff to a Boom Pole?

An extra few minutes of care tying up rocks pays off. Make a circular chain around the bottom and three going up in a type of slingshot.

I can't count how many rocks fell, by being in a hurry and not having the right chain (or rope). Many on a boom pole.

So what's it like traveling on rough ground with a heavy pendulum hanging from a boom pole? I don't have one but once I had an emergency where I had to cover some rough ground with a post hole digger still mounted. The untethered gearbox/auger was flopping around all over the place.

Front ballast is no less important than rear...be it a FEL bucket of gravel etc. or frame weights...it mellows the ride...
Also...boom poles are much more about loading and unloading than they are about transporting...that's what trailers etc.are for...

Old tire chains make really good slings.

Having driven tractors for over 45 years and owning 6 at the present time I have never found any job for a boom pole that a front end loader cannot do better, more efficiently or safer.......

I have an application where I cannot get enough height and reach with my FEL and an FEL mounted boom would get me there. Loads are not heavy, just that I need to set higher and farther.

Instead of a traditional boom pole, I put my old HF engine hoist on a FEL plate. Very versatile. And a wide range of movement. For lifting stuff I put a hook on the hoist, then use straps or chains as needed. Someone made a very important point, the lift is for lifting. Not transporting. For more than a few feet, find a trailer or something rather than the tractor which will easily get too wobbly.

Very nice.

I've lifted a heavy electric motor and other things out of my station wagon. Boom poles can fit into some really tight spaces.

By the way, I've usually used a short chain that has slip and grab hooks on either end. My boom pole has a loop of bar on the end. But occasionally I've used rope, especially when I have to tie up something complicated and awkward or needing support at many points.

It sounds like I need a hook on the end of the pole, and after that, I can attach straps or ropes or chains or whatever.

I should explain why I don't use the loader for rocks. My tractor has 4 brush forks on it, and each one probably weighs nearly 100 pounds. They are no fun to take off. I don't remove them unless i have to. My Property requires removal of limbs and brush every week, so the forks take top priority. Also, there are rocks that won't fit in the bucket.

The other day I pulled a rock weighing hundreds of pounds out of a hole, using a rope tied to a brush fork. As it was about to leave the ground, it occurred to me that it would want to swing. I didn't succeed in delaying things in order to move the tractor forward, so the rock did its thing. Glad the Kubota has a heavy guard on it.

A rock hanging from a low boom pole can't swing far enough to hit the tractor.
