Hi

It was/is a 2016 chevy silverado 1500. I thought stepping down from the 2500 would save me some fuel, 3 more mpg on average..

To answer some questions:
I bought it to trailer frequently, but I didn't buy the piece of equipment and I only trailer about 5-8 times a year.
I have lived in the North my whole life (outside military service and two brief jobs in fla/ga).
Truck gets rinsed off in the winter, not for aesthetics, to remove salt, and yes it either gets hand sprayed by me (underside) or by a wash.
Truck, without looking at bill, was built to haul 10K (dealer went to delaware to get the only one in stock they could find).

I LOVE to tell this story...

When I was putting a new 200 amp service into my shop, the power company FINALLY came out to hook it up. (literally turn it on) Anyway, everything was ready to turn it on and EVERYONE was standing around, except one guy. He was asleep in the cab of one of the trucks! lol

Anyway, I asked what's the hold up, and I was told they were waiting for the person to show up and tighten down the Allen heads, (the cable was already under the lugs) to secure the wire in the meter loop. At this point, I offered to let them use MY wrench, I offered to tighten them up for them ect....BUT, I was told it was a "union thing" and they had to wait for the person, who's job it was to do that!!

After more than an hour of standing around, a short gal shows up with a wrench and tightens up the Allen heads, then says to the very guy I had talked to, "here, check them"!!! He then took the wrench and finished tightening them!!!!

Only then did they go to the pole and switch the power on!!! How's that for spending the money from OUR electrical bill???? Did I say "spending?", I should have said WASTEING!!!

OOOOOH, the guy in the truck, we happen to know his wife, and she bragged her lineman husband made 39 bucks an hour!!!

You want to talk about the UAW??? I was in the UAW for a few years, I also have toured auto mfg. plants! I saw a guy stretched out on a piece of cardboard along the line, sound asleep!!! lol

I worked where they made ford dash panels, anyone here ever own a mustang that had a dash that rattled??? I can tell you why it rattled!!

SR

I have on 05 mustang, why does it rattle?

I knew a guy years ago that worked in a GM plant in MA, he told me once in a while one of the workers would put something metal in the rear bumper so that it would rattle, He said they would also put a wheel weight inside the tire before mounting it on the rim to make noise..

Don't know if it's true or not but I knew another guy that worked in an assembly plant. Says a guy tied a large nut to a string, and placed it inside some cavity with a note that read "Bet It Drove You Crazy"

My 1994 Dodge ram has 330,000 miles and still runs and looks good. Mind you ive had it repainted, a new transmission, and enough $$ spent in repairs to have purchased two of them originally...but it still works great.

My 2004 F350 has about 100,000 miles and has only had one injector fail. no other issues. Its a real strong pulling beast, that's used mainly to pull 5th wheel horse trailer.

When i went out to purchase a new truck in 2017, i talked to my trusted mechanic. I asked what trucks he likes best, and he was a "Chevy Man" thru and thru. He absolutely loved chevy trucks. Then my wife asked him what he drove. He said he drove a Toyota. Asked why, he honestly told me he works on vehicles 5+ days a week, and didnt want to work on his own. So he bought a Toyota.

I now have a 2017 Toyota Tundra in the garage. Great truck

When I worked there, it was a lot older than that...

The reason they rattled is, they are a 2 piece press stamping, with glue between them so they don't rattle. The problem is, the job was "piece work", so when they ran out of glue, they NEVER stopped, that would lower production per hr... They just kept going until some one brought more glue!

EVERY one that wasn't glued, rattled a little and they all went into car's...

I have a mechanic friend, he bought Fords for many many years...he swore by them... When we were kids, he liked Fords...

When he was getting to retirement age (a few years ago) he decided to buy a NEW pu to pull his 5th wheel, as in retirement he and his wife planned to travel. He looked and looked at new trucks, and bought a new Chevy 2500 diesel. He now says it was the best move he ever made... He's been traveling a lot with it and says it's been the best truck he has ever owned...

So, there ya go, different strokes for different folks...

My Olds Bravada (which I recently gave to my daughter) has over 120K on original brake pads and discs and still has plenty of pad on them. It spent the first 2 years in Canada and was driven year round. My Chevy truck has a bit over 50K, never driven in the salt and brakes are still good. I have pulled trailers with it all its life although nothing heavy that didn't have trailer brakes.
I doubt that your next Ford will be any different. My neighbor had to have a complete brake job on his Ford F 150 at less than 30K and he never pulls trailers and never stops hard (at least when I have been riding with him). I think he had to have brake pads changed again at 50K. SO Fords dont seem to be any different, sometimes you just get one that wears the brakes faster than others.

My F-150 just had its 75K service done, brakes are still good for another 10-20K, I drive in winter snow and ice, and pull a trailer quite regularly. Also I am a heavy footed driver, and not afraid to use my brakes when needed.

NO problem, go home and sleep!! Don't make me pay 39 bucks an hour for you to sleep!!

BTW, I was in the ibew for a few years too, we were building steel towers across the state. The boss sat in the truck with the motor running (winter) while we worked.

And, what about the wasted hour and a half, waiting for a gal to show up to tighten 3 lugs?? THEN having someone else tighten them??

There were two truck loads of guys standing around that day... How much is that @ $39 per hr.?

SR

NEWS FLASH for you.You just can"t go home and grab some shut eye when you feel like it.You have to get the power back on.Heck that 39 bucks an hour is a H-ll of a deal IMHO.Love to see some folks climb a 90ft.pole in the middle of the night covered in ice and then tell me they don"t think 39 buck a-roos per hour is a steal of a deal.Laffin..
