Geeze...!...There is a huge difference between being able to decide to whom and how much one will give to and the gov. just taking it to add to the coffers that support some programs that some people are opposed to...

Just because you have wealth does not mean you did not work your arse off for it and want to leave it to your own.
By the way, have you given ALL that you have to the government? A true lefty would not have so much as one tractor because the value of said tractor could be given to those living on the street doing drugs. You have a number of Kubotas that could fetch a nice sum. That money could buy a lot of drugs for the homelsss in LA, New York or wherever you choose.

The interest owed is calculated by the county, not by the tax payer.
BS story. I live in Michigan. Two people I know are behind on their property taxes and know how to play the game and avoid foreclosure.

My opinion ....
This should never happen .... almost never. Garnish wages, garnish tax refunds or government benefits, lien on property, etc. Seizing/Foreclosing should only happen after 5 years of no contact or attempt to pay and only if outstanding amount is 50% or more of the property value. And even then, it should be reviewed by a third party ... state, judge, mediator, or similar.

No matter what the reason is, allowing the county to keep the surplus is B.S. They should be required to obtain something approaching fair market value, and the owner should receive anthing over and above the unpaid taxes and reasonable collection value.
