This service animal thing is getting out of hand.

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (KPHO/KTVK/CNN) An Arizona man said he registered a beehive as a service animal to prove a point.

David Keller and his family dont keep bees, but Keller is still getting quite the buzz.

A lot of people thought it was hilarious, and a lot of people were getting upset, he said.

Last month, he saw what appeared to be a service dog that was misbehaving.

I could very easily tell that it was not a service animal, because it was pulling the owner to the parking lot, Keller said.

So, he decided to take a stand.

I was thinking that it's just too easy to get these animals to be service animals, he said.

Keller said he went to a website called usaservicedogregistration.com, and successfully registered a picture of a beehive as a service animal to bring awareness to the issue that anyone could do this.

It turns out there are many service animal registration websites out there. And with little way to verify a real service animal from a fake one,
you might ask, what's the point?

They don't mean anything, service dog trainer Jaymie Cardin said about such sites. You can go pay for a registry on one of those websites, and basically
you're just paying for a piece of paper and to put a name on a list.

Cardin said the sites do highlight a real problem: people passing off pets as service animals.

Training is how you tell if it's a service animal or not, she said.

There are a few rules. Federal law says only dogs and miniature horses may be used as service animals.

The law is pretty clear that a service animal is an animal that is trained to perform a specific task related to the disability, said Sey In, an attorney with the Arizona Center for Disability Law.

As it turns out, the animal doesn't actually need to be registered anywhere.

Keller said he hopes he has proven his point about the registration sites.

It's making people believe that all animals are service animals when they're not, and there's a clear difference, he said.

Dont even know how to reply to this.

Service dogs are a great provider for those in need. I greatly respect them and their trainers.

but

There are always going to be those who have to disrespect the rules and take advantage or public service.
I put them in a catagory right up there with stealing from those in need.

I have a Aussie (13), he is a working dog (cattle) or children  . . . he is my employee, my friend, and my companion . . . should I consider him a service animal (I don't) . . . he's just one smart dog ;)

My girls refer to me as their "service human"... 20161028_182058_resized.jpg
Here I am taking them to the store to get them some Vienna Sausages...

That's Savannah... she's a sweetheart with an appetite.

Ah well Savannah looks very happy/content . . . and waiting sort of patiently for you to go fetch the Vienna. :drink:

My dogs have voracious appetites but they still have their girlish figures. They eat the amount that I feed them and I go up and down on the amount a bit. I like to see proper dents where their belly is.

I was really distraught when the coyotes killed my emotional support turkey.

The service animal gig is greatly over used. Now there is the "emotional support" animal as well. Service animal may indeed have legal limitations but you can have an emotional support snake, chicken, or whatever else you wish. I believe airlines are obligated to allow them to fly with you. I'm not sure a service beehive or emotional support beehive would be permitted. Is there an end to the insanity?

I am just glad I don't have to fly any more.

My wife goes to the Y for gym work. One morning last week, someone brought a puppy into the gym. It wasn't even near her. She could only hear it. However, she came down with a severe allergic reaction to its dander released into the AC system. She could hardly talk when she got home later. It was a "service" dog in training. Hasn't been there since. She took a mask in the next couple days.

I'm sure my cats think of me as their service human. Saturday morning, Butter fried Cheese Omlette. Night time, Cheese Fondue with Ham. Now impatiently waiting for BBQ sausage. I got to go . . .

We found the remains of one of "our" turkeys last weekend and wondered, what happened? More disturbing than coming across a 787 plane crash!

Not only is it too easy to get an animal registered there is nothing in place requiring a person to prove they NEED a service animal.

I know someone that owns a coffee shop. They were continually worried about the health inspector showing up and finding their pet dog inside. With no training or proof of need they registered the dog as a service animal. Problem solved.

So the mice and whatever else have free range because your kitties have the gourmet menu?

For many handicapped people service dogs etc. can be a godsend...but for the majority of physically able people that claim a service animal the animals are nothing but a crutch for at the least is a lack of fortitude and at worst a mental weakness...the latter being no different than other individuals who are substance addicts etc...

Therefore making it more difficult for people who genuinely need a service animal.

OTOH it's been a year and I still miss my service turkey... she would have gotten along well with my new service plant, cranberry.
