Reliable pull behind mowers?

I had a 44" pull behind Swisher that i liked a lot. Mine was a finish mower and worked well on the lawn. It could scalp and even stall the blades if it got high centered when cutting. They do make a trail cutter version that has blades more like a Bush Hog mower that might be better suited to your needs.
Mine was built pretty well. The 10.5 hp motor that it came with seemed to be a little under powered in tall grass. After a couple of years I I found a good deal on a 15 HP Kohler electric start motor and it worked great. Iused that Swisher about 10 years till i bought a big zero turn and it was no longer needed.

I had a Swisher tow behind rough cut style but sold it after a couple years. It was a little underpowered, required a large turning radius and it's hard to keep a constant travel speed with a thumb throttle on an ATV. Often it just folded the tall stuff over with not much cutting action. DR made a two wheel rough cut one but looks like they've dropped it and only produce a 4 wheel one.

I had a 63" made by Agri-Fab. It was a 4-wheeled version. I used it for a few years behind a Sears Suburban Garden Tractor. It did a great job cutting up until the point we had some work done with a dozer. The dozer found a metal T-post. It buried it except for about 2 inches or so. Somehow the front of the mower deck made it over the post but I caught with the blade. Messed that mower up. Bent the blade, shattered one of the 3 jackshafts, bent the belt pulleys, and the pulley on the bottom of the motor. I replaced everything that looked hurt. Still ate belts every few hours. Spent more on parts then I spent on the thing originally ($1500). Ended up selling it, saying I was only selling the motor, everything else was just a gift. I had bought the New Holland and wasn't needed as much any longer even though I really wanted to pull it behind the New Holland off-set.

Sounds like a very rough experience. :(

I've got a 40" titan ATV flail mower being shipped at the moment, hoping it gets here this week. I'll update with some pics and let you know how it works out once I fire it up!
