Interesting oil brand comparison

I'd like to know WHICH car manufacturers recommend 15,000-20,000 MILES between oil changes. Never seen or heard of that before. Or are you talking about your Kenworth?

Some of the new Toyota cars are 16,000km with the newer 0W20 engines...typically 8,000km is recommended. 20,000miles is 32,000km.
Your recommendation must be from the oil change places. Even back in the 70's OEM recommendations was 6000 Miles while oil change places continue even today to say come on back in 3000 miles even if you have them install full synthetic oil. My 2007 Chevy says once per year OR whenever the computer says to change it. Usually 7500 miles is standard mileage between oil changes.
Since 2003 when I got my first car with oil life monitor, I only change it when it is down to around 10% regardless of how long it takes to get there. Almost all of my driving is 20 miles per trip or longer so the engine gets plenty heated up to drive off any moisture.

I do change my tractors yearly since mostly they just get used for a few minutes at a time.

Will try again. Lost internet and lost my post.

Been doing 10k oil changes since 2011, starting with 6 on our VW TDI and now 3 on our 2016 Mz3 and 2013 Mx5. This is what the manufacturer recommends for normal usage, and all our trips are 20 miles or more. Typically, yearly oil changes.

Gone to every other year on the tractor and multiple years on the Isuzu diesel generator driver and the 2005 Tacoma.

All use synthetic: 5w30 diesel oil for the diesels and 0w20 for the 3 gas engines. Do yearlies using M1 5w30 on the lawn mower air cooled engines.

I think a lot depends on what oils are being used. An oil life monitor does not know if you are using dino juice or a high $ full synthetic.
10,000 miles is doable for a full syn, dino not so much.

I would like to find some 5-30 diesel oils around, nobody carries them, just 10-30, when it's 20 below zero I would rather have 5-30.

Amazon I reckon, or where do you guys get your oil from? I live in the sticks so it's be ordered, my co-ops don't carry it.

Originally my RAM 1500 spec'ed a European 5W-30 Diesel oil there were about 3 or 4 out there an Amsoil, a Mobile 1 and a couple of others.
Had to order it to get it, then they changed the spec to a 5W-40 with Shell Rotella T6 being an acceptable oil.
The 5W-40 synthetic diesel oils are fairly easy to find around here.

VW has about 4 different 5w30 diesel rated oils. I bought the one rated for the 2010 VW TDI.

Can buy M1 0w30 ESP (exhaust system protection; for DPF vehicles) online for about the same price. When I run out of the VW oil, this is what I plan to use.

I use Royal Purple in everything except the Chevelle which only sees the drag strip. 15-40 in the Cummins and the Kioti and 5-30 in everything else. Everything seems to work fine.

What do you use in the drag-only Chevelle?
Or did you mean to say you use Royal Purple in the Chevelle?
If so, what weight RP do you use in it?

I find oil threads to be boring...........

Ok I"ll bite.

I think we still have enough freedom in North America that you actually don't have to read oil threads if you don't want to. If you are finding being addicted to oil threads a life hampering issue I'm sure there is a therapist somewhere that can help you get the freedom you need. Have a great day!
