Might have something to do with the cultural differences between north and south Europe, Germany and Scandinavian is high income states, well organized, a functional welfare states , very high trust on the system and government, high education levels and as mentioned before not a very social culture.

Wonder if there is a big difference between north and south Italy, as far as I know those two regions could almost be seen as two completely different countries.

Southern Italy used to be more rural with smaller cities....but that was decades ago.

Looting will be a bigger concern in the cities. I believe there will be more unprepared people in cities. I agree with your "solution" and it will be a wake up call for most. Unlike Katrina, where there were reports of gun seizures "to keep the peace", this will be such a wide spread event that will not happen. There are too many guns to make it practical. And citizens will never go for it in any case. Expect a couple of 1000 people to get shot but in the big scheme of things it will be a small number that the media will, as normal, blow out of proportion.

The up side, fewer people will ever vote for gun control when they realize the police cannot protect them. The other upside, mass shooters will need to go to the beaches to find victims now that schools, churches and entertainment events shut are down.

So the big news from Downunder is that, as of 2100 (AEST), Friday, 20/3/2020, Australia becomes FORTRESS AUSTRALIA. Only Australian citizens/residents will be allowed into the country. By any means.

New Zealand is doing this tonight, at their midnight.

Tasmania has gone one better than mainland Australia... all (including Australian) non-Tasmanian visitors (air or ferry) must self-quarantine for 14 days.
