My fear too... my SIL is a fireman, my DIL is a nurse, several SIL are nurses. Not a good feeling..
It is having a profound affect on staffing here...
My observation about 20% of the staff has opted out... they are taking vacation, filing unemployment etc...
One is a new Mom that was only back for a week...
Others are docs in their 60's who never take a vacation and now on vacation and a lot is spousal pressure... especially with young parents and we have a fair amount of RN with under 10 children now at home with school closure for the rest of the academic year.
The message changes daily... we are suppose to conserve PPE and then it says everyone must wear PPE... even administrative and office working far removed... then it says shortage is critical, we don't have enough so staying home if you can... either working from home or take time off... to free up resources.
I realize this is very fluid but if I am the only person working say in accounting... I would feel guilty taking a mask, smock, etc... but it is now required as a condition to be on site.
Same with temperature... can't social distance having your temp taken and someone working in a support services floor as the only occupant of the unit just has me questioning PPE
I'm the first to arrive in my unit each morning at 4:30 am... just got a text saying do not enter the building without temp clearance... as I am the first there is no one to clear me... so a nurse has to come in 2 hours early to take my temp so I can fire up the steam boilers which is in the basement...
Which begs the question if I should be sent home... I guess we lock the doors?
