Working on a dead in the water 5325.

*Issue- after a pressure wash tractor will not start. I’m not necessarily convinced this caused the issue. Everything works but the N light just flashes and the power reverser malfunction indicator light is on. It thinks it’s in gear so it will not start with key.

*what I’ve done- performed the obvious... tested fuses, checked and tested relays, inspected connections and their pins and traced down harnesses for wear or damage. Further in depth I pulled the dash and checked/tested the hidden relays, checked seat switch, pulled any other plastic hiding wires or connections and checked them. Also cleaned and serviced battery which has 12.6 volts.

I contacted a local dealer which was of no suggestions or help. A wiring diagram is $350. I was told to google issue they guess.

This is my neighbors machine and it is currently a in the way lawn ornament. Him and his wife are not currently working due to work shutdowns from the virus and to add bad to worse his mother lost her battle to cancer yesterday. I am a mechanic/technician so my electrical and mechanical skills are up there. What I need is location of components that could be the potential issue, possibly some testing procedures, or a power reverser diagram. It truly shocks me how worthless Hutson John Deere was for any type of assistance.

Ask them to print out the wiring diagrams for you to work from.. they can if they want to help you. Hopefully you didn't burn any bridges already.

Also, someone here may chime in with the wiring diagrams too. Sorry, this model is not included on my CD ROM.

Check that the other safety switches are in the right position.. PTO switch off, seat switch closed, etc.

Frustrated myself yesterday when my 4300 wouldn't start. Wiggled the PTO lever between ON-neutral-brake positions and made a connection. Apparently thought is was engaged.

The result of the power wash may have knocked a switch out of place, or pulled a wire out of a connector. Wish you well and for your neighbor.

I was nothing but polite and professional with them. They said they could not print anything out and apologized. I’m not knocking them just stating a fact. I might as well have called Walmart and asked them. I did check safeties and any harness I could. I’m just trying to do him a favor as a friend due to his current situation. My time is a premium and I would save a lot of it if the dealer would help. I’m just glad of all the equipment types I work on no manufacturer is as stingy on information as they are. Sorry still a bit steamed at the situation

He has been very helpful with some service manuals.. no idea if his covers for the 5325.

The Deere dealer I visited for a part a couple days ago was very understaffed, and trying to accommodate customers at the door.. very inconvenient for them and meeting the Ag demands for field-ready equipment and dealing with this COVID-19 shutdown, may put some limits on their response. It would take their time. Not making excuses for them either.

Does it have the "electro" controlled Power Reverser? I am thinking power washing got the reverser control wet inside.

That’s the style. It doesn’t look like dash or operator station was washed. Checking that with a meter I had continuity from an end wire to one of the other three in any given position. For instance continuity from a to b in foreword but not a to c or d. It would change in each position which is how I would expect it to be.

On some tractors with the power reversers / power shuttles if the parking brake is applied or the switch thinks it is the indicator will flash and not engage.

Next I would check the solenoid on the transmission, and it's connector

Check for continuity from B to D when in neutral. This is circuit for neutral start. Power comes in D and B goes to neutral relay K16. I am assuming open station tractor? If so, is a flat platform tractor or straddle mount? Wiring varies depending on configuration.

I'd let it dry out for a couple of days. I bet you forced some water into something that doesn't like water and got a short that will hopefully correct itself.
