Got a urge to buy a Ruger LCP II 380. Nobody I checked had ammo for it. Academy Sports has the guns but no ammo and the store clerk said HE couldn't order it. I told him their web site was giving me the option to order the ammo online and he said I should go for it. I went ahead and ordered 3 boxes of Hornady FTX Critical Defense .380 Automatic 90-Grain Handgun Ammunition just to see if they fill it. If I get the ammo I will go back for the gun. I don't suppose they will run out of the guns if they don't have ammo but it would be my luck if they did.

Last i checked they had that exact ammo a week ago.

What kind of gun dealer can't order ammo? Your only problem may be if you can't get the gun you probably can't return the ammo.

I have a Ruger LC9.... hate the thing. ... Along with a S&W m&p40 ...those are the two pieces I have in my collection that collect dust.

I think you'll like the LCP II. I looked at one, but went with a Kahr CW380 instead. Just didn't like the trigger on the LCP II (but it's much improved over the original LCP, which I did have and sold).
.380 is tough to find right now, even online. I ordered hardball on Sportsman Guide but when I got the e-mail confirmation, it stated the ammo was backordered to June.
I did find some Speer Gold Dot, but very pricey and Kahr hand guns should be broken in with hardball

BTW, Hornady Critical Defense is great ammo if your gun runs with it. I use it successfully in two Ruger 9mm's (SR9 and SR9C) as well as a Kahr CW9.

If you do go for the LCP II, look at the Vedder Light Tuck IWB Holster...most comfortable IWB holster I've ever had.

Before you buy the gun, look hard at the Kahr CW9. I have two of them...and a CW40.

9mm has a bit more power and the gun is still small. My fiancé can handle it, so recoil is not a concern. 9mm ammo is more readily available. If you do not reload, you can get blasting ammunition for less than $9/box of 50.

Once I got the Kahr, I sold my 380's...they made no sense.

The Kahr is my "summer" light clothing carry gun. I normally carry a full size Glock. Holster selection is important...be prepared to buy a few before you get one you like. I have two shoe boxes full of holsters.

Good luck!!!

I bought an LCP for my wife, but the gun is so light that the recoil is sharp, even in 380. Also, she was unable to rack the slide consistently. So I swapped it for an LCR in 357M. My wife only shoots 38spl in it to keep recoil down, but the heavier frame makes it easier for her to shoot. Revolvers are generally more reliable, too. It's larger, of course, so not as concealable, but still reasonably sized.

My favorite carry gun is a Colts Mustang in 380, but good luck finding a used one.

What do you hate about the LC9?
Trigger pull?

whew.... glad, to find out that I'm not the only one that's bought ammo for a gun they don't yet have.....

I also second the ammoseek recommendation (especially when buying by the case).... that site was actually partially responsible for me buying my first AR since when I was looking to start shooting more (several years ago) .223 Remington was the cheapest center-fire rifle ammunition that was domestically manufactured. Which is something I learned by using that site and just searching for rifle ammo in all calibers (both with and without specifying the cartridge's case material).

It was the same situation with 9x19mm (which lead to buying an HK VP9 as it was the most ambidextrous-friendly semi-auto handgun I could find at the time).....
