Note to moderator: This is not intended to be a religious post, but I realize this is bordering on that so please delete this if it crosses the line of what's acceptable.

I don't think anyone is going to object to uplifting advice like yours. I'm a bit of a heathen myself but I've seen how a person's faith has helped that person. More power to you if this helps you find answers.

In my opinion it isn't until someone tells another what they must do, that mentioning religion crosses the line.

The number of "tested positives" I have decided is meaningless. I bet you have at least 6 thousand positives. The only test that is going to mean anything is if they develop and distribute a good antibody test. So many have had this virus and did not even know they had it, or dismissed it as a "cold". That Stanford Santa Clara California test IF it can be believed did a random sample of 3000 people and they estimate the number of people that have had the disease is 50 to 80 times the official number that have tested positive in their area. IF we can believe this testing and estimating. One does not know what to believe for sure any more. But I sure bet you have a lot more than 68 people in your area with this. Your point about the collateral damage on the other side is well taken.

Yes today's numbers about COVID-19 are more or less without any "proven" meaning as California's post indicates. Science will catch up so maybe by 2022 we will have some meaningful data. Currently even from the professionals we are stuck with anecdotal info.

Locally there was about Zero testing until someone was about to croak but when testing started we went from 0 to 68 like a high end Tesla.

From what I am reading the collateral of not doing routine medical care/surgeries is for sure causing needless deaths and or turning over night hospital stays into weeks of hospital stays. Locally hospitals are croaking from the lack of patients unlike in NY, etc and may not be able to come back on line overnight if COVID-19 does go into run away mode. Today I plan to learn about how the Swedish experiment of no tight lock down is working. If 70%+ are going to get exposed to the virus that can lead to no symptoms or death at the other extreme I go not see the need to drag it out over the next several years but we need to work to prevent a NY style melt down if at all possible.

Make that a NYC (New York City) or down state issue.

My area has had only a few hundred in a tri county area, with most of them inone more populated county,
3 hospitals and several health care groups have laid people off because of no patients and lack of patients,
a small hospital with a few hundred beds and a lot less then a hundred patients laid off over 300 people.

In less populated parts of the country, we could all do ourselves a lot of good by not always having to live our lives based on the trials & tribulations of New York City, North Jersey and Long Island.
Im 100 miles south of those locations and theres no panic, no overflow, no air raid sirens going off, or any army field hospitals being built. Pretty much just life as usual.
We can walk and chew gum at the same time. I wish my states governor could understand that.

No offense, but 'melt down' needs to be defined and once defined, determine if a specific city matches NYC situation.

• A lot of cases and a lot of deaths? Yes.
• Did they need the number of ventilators they claimed they would need at the beginning? No.
• Are all their hospitals ICUs overrun? No.
• Did they need the temporary hospitals built in Central Park and the Javits Center?
• Did they need the Navy ship?
• Were the citizens told to continue normal life, e.g., attend parades, at the beginning? Yes
• How many generations are living in one home?
• What happens when you close schools and send kids home to such an environment? Better or worse?
• Should cabbies wipe down their back seats after every fare?
• Should buses be sanitized after every run?
• How do you social distance on a subway car, a bus, an elevator?

I do not see how any city, which depends on public transportation, particularly subways and buses, and live in high rise apartment complexes could have avoided NYCs experience.

I sure do not have the answers, except to say, one size (solution) does not fit all?

All good here, living under our governor's draconian ( and constitution trampling mandates). Wearing a mask when going out which is rare. Don't plan on getting the Wuhan Flu if I can help it. Will be interesting to see what the 'new normal' turns out to be.

I suspect a lot of businesses will never come back, especially small ones.

Drama makes for more eyes on the newscasts. Now those ships will have to be cleaned stem to stern.

I did read where the buses and subways were considered to be the may source of virus spread in NYC. Sanitation has been a factor in most if not all disease epidemics of the past we know. The more people in one location compounds the potential for disaster.

I think that is part of the plan. Big businesses have always wanted to swat small businesses out of existence

To date testing is 7158 people tested. The confirmed cases will rise and the recovery rate as well. There will be deaths however there are more killed in car crashes to date in this state than the virus caused deaths. Hopefully our governor has a plan on restarting our state at the end of the month. The people are grumbling much like the people in Michigan.

I'm glad you brought up car crashes and fatalities....
Year after year after year, car crash fatalities have dropped per miles driven despite the increase of the population, the number of cars on the road, and the numbers of miles driven. This is fact.



Now imagine if every week, car crash fatalities doubled, because of some reason, like every car on the road started transmitting bad computer code to every other car on the road if they got within 6 feet of each other.

Pretty sure a ban of driving would happen until the reason was figured out, no?
