I was a mild alcoholic prior to this mess. Now that they have shut down the rural living bars and eateries... I am anxious/depressed and irritable. My wife and I have went from 27 years of marital bliss, to now we are angry, drunk and fighting constantly. We have declared hatred to each other, I am openly rude to strangers and try to make sure that every human I get a chance to interact with... I want them to be a pissed off and miserable as I am. I am sad to be an American in this insane world. I once thought that we were a country of free men, and of strong patriots. I was very wrong. We are a country of lemmings who fall in line under the control of an oppressive government like good little subjects do. I am now admitting to myself that I am a full blown alcoholic, when I pray to god I ask him to take me so that I can be free again. It truly is a sad time to be an American who once thought that strong free men walked this country and who thought that the government was an entity of limited power over the day to day life of good law abiding Americans. I have been shown to be so wrong on both accounts.

27 years of marital bliss gone in a few weeks....think about that. The first step to solving a problem is admitting it.

You both need to get away from eachother and do some serious thinking. If you have to break the new rules to do that...do it. Being together and hating eachother is not going to mend the relationship. Go back to drinking if that is the only way to stand eachother for the time being. But it will not solve the deeper issues that have been ignored for decades.

Do not throw away 27 years of marriage without fighting

We only added 6 more positives today so we are now at 68. Sadly some are saying the non COVID-19 may be less than deaths due to the shut down if routine health care and people's fear of COVID-19 if they went to ER.

The number of "tested positives" I have decided is meaningless. I bet you have at least 6 thousand positives. The only test that is going to mean anything is if they develop and distribute a good antibody test. So many have had this virus and did not even know they had it, or dismissed it as a "cold". That Stanford Santa Clara California test IF it can be believed did a random sample of 3000 people and they estimate the number of people that have had the disease is 50 to 80 times the official number that have tested positive in their area. IF we can believe this testing and estimating. One does not know what to believe for sure any more. But I sure bet you have a lot more than 68 people in your area with this. Your point about the collateral damage on the other side is well taken.

The local paper there (a major newspaper) has collected substantial criticism of that study, issued by many other statisticians. In summary they say you can't project community numbers from the small number of self-selected people who were tested, also the actual test isn't very precise - with 6 false positives per thousand as I recall.

Lets just say the Stanford survey serves to suggest more precise testing, but that isn't available yet.

Somebody extrapolated that out and figured that NYC would have a couple of million more patients than it has residents.

My wife’s best friend is a nurse practitioner at a small city hospital (Reading, PA) and they are actually laying off hospital personnel. This is because all non essential and elective surgeries have been cancelled in anticipation of the hospital being over whelmed. Theres just a few Covid admissions, so a lot of the hospital is empty.
Was watching a news program showing a few hospitals closed and went under because they have no customers because all their joint replacements, cosmetic, etc surgeries are cancelled.

I’ve heard similar here in MD, hospital numbers are actually down from normal.

I know people here who have had "elective surgery" put off. OTOH retirement communities are taking a beating, with residents and care workers both coming down with the virus.

I haven't had a drink since 1983, and that is by far the best choice I've made in my entire life. The irony is that I recall drinking alone, and I realized that I couldn't go on like this, but the idea of not drinking seemed horrible and dull.

Since that time, I have received so many blessings that I never would have imagined. If I could have waved a magic wand and received everything I wanted in life back then, I would have sold myself short.

if you decide that you want to improve your life, there are millions of people just like you, and they can help. Contact your local AA central office, and they will get you in contact with someone.

I don't have a desire for alcohol so I don't drink much and therefore can't give you any advise on drinking other than what's been said. However, I can tell you what God has done in my life and it is far more awesome than what I'd ever had planned, just like drssg's experience. So, consider going to church and helping out in something there. Will it help? - maybe. But it will get you around more positive and uplifting people which has helped me. Read Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (NIV)

It took a strong man to admit this affliction Larry. I've been where you are now and it's time to seek help. You can do it.
