Box Scraper 5’ box blade recommendations

So Rhino is a good (quality) implement... I'm assuming that is the price "New" (which you could still do better on), if that is used I don't think it a good deal... new maybe ok.... It looks like the Rhino CBX60 only weights 280lbs so that shouldn't be an issue

My only other caution is if I read your tractor specs right it is 57.1" wide so a 60" blade barely covers your tires track.... depending on a couple of things you way want to look wider... not sure the width of your driveway / roads you will maintain or the pitch, or crown but I have a 72" box blade on our 40 HP machine which is 68+" wide & I wish I had gone wider. The reason is in many areas where I have either drainage or culverts I can not get the box blade as close to the edge of the culverts as I need to (especially when I add some pitch to the blade).... just food for thought... you may want something a little wider

Also it is a box blade so you may want to look for a used one... no movable parts & not a lot of wearable parts so it is pretty easy to spot an abused one...

That is some solid advice! Thank you! I was thinking that my machine only having 25hp would be better of with something smaller but if I angle it, I wont cover my tracks. Besides, I am getting 3” spacers on each side because I am on hills. Going to look for a used 6’ to start with. Price goes up fairly high at that size for new ones.

Man, there are some great advice here. I really appreciate it. Thank you all! I am hoping to use it to do some leveling work and maintain a gravel road. Possibly use it to push snow too. I imagine I will leave the backhoe on most of the time other than winter when the box blade will be on.

You generally do NOT angle a box blade (other than front to back, or side to side, tilt) so if it just covers your tracks and maybe a couple inches more on each side, that's all you need... Steve

Thanks Steve! I was thinking back blade. I am very ignorant at this point. I grew up in the city and know little of the tractor world. That is why I am here to learn. Other than the loader and backhoe, I am just exploring attachments I will need. Thought this would be a good one to start with. I did order a piranha bucket blade.

I would say that a 6' box blade is a bit much for a 25HP tractor.

The "C" designation means the box blade is made for compact tractors...Tractor manuals usually have recommended attachment sizes etc...

I agree with fried1765, a 6 footer will be a lot for your 1720. If you are just scraping the top layer of loose gravel or soft soil, you would probably get away with it. For what you describe, a heavier 5 footer would do you better. I have a 25 horse compact tractor, I can get it to spin tires when I get a 5 footer loaded up. Better to do a couple more passes than be frustrated not being able to pull it.

Thanks for the advance! this is what need to maintain. Would a box blade be the right implement for this? Should I consider a back blade or rake? I have other uses for a box blade so if that will work, all the better.

This sounds more like a traction issue...I can pull a 60" bb over flowing with wet crusher run up hill with just a 17HP b series with no issues...the only time I lose traction is when a scarifier hooks on a huge rock or big root...which the same thing will happen with much heavier and more powerful machines...

Again, what does the manufacturer recommend ??
