Nice, glad to see those rafters fit perfectly.

How many times did you tell your wife to trim it?

That view at the end is great. The Shenandoah mts are special to me, because a lot of my dates with my wife were hiking up there in 1985-1986.

I don’t know how it goes for most guys, but I don’t get listened to much around here. It’s the darnedest thing. She is so particular and detail oriented about most things. The idea that she would suggest just bounding the piece in really astounds me.

Last weekend and this weekend have been mostly tying up loose ends with the framing. Putting splines in the too of the SIPs. Tension blocks for the trusses and adding some additional fasteners. The fir timber I ordered to replace the header in the two hallways came in, and yesterday I cut and installed the first one.
This is a fresh milled timber. 8 foot 4x12 and heavy as heck. My timbers for Post and beam came from the same mill but have been here since November. I can lift one end of a 24 foot 6x12 with those. So having them dried out makes a huge difference in handling them.
We are about to head to Lowes to get some more subfloor plywood for the attic area.

This isn’t exactly build related but it has an effect on the Build.
Friday I went to check the orchard and discovered dying blooms and leaves on about 1/3 of our trees. I thought it was frost damage My wife suspected Fire blight. She emailed Virginia Tech and the verified that it is Fire blight. A severe infection that could kill the trees. We have to Prune hard and spray the trees. And we will burn the prunings. I already had to spray fungicide on a schedule. And keep an eye for pests. We had some caterpillar infestation 2 weeks ago.
This is normal crap to have to deal with, but it is time intensive. It takes away from build time. This too shall pass, but it sucks.

I forgot what type of fruit trees you planted?

We have 500 apple trees.

Oh my, hope you get it under control. Do they graft apple trees? Do you have more than 1 variety?

Oh, fire blight can be bad. I hope you can get it under control.

This is a most unfortunate occurrence but appears you have a plan to aggressively remove the blight. With 500 Trees, even if only 200 are infected, this is a ton of manual effort for each tree to cut and treat, but your BHO end goal will be preserved!

Someone asked about trees being grafted, yes that is how you start them out, a scion is grafted to a chosen rootstock. We have 6 varieties. The majority are Hewes crab and virginia Winesap.
We went in tonight and my wife pruned while I swapped out the cutter for the sprayer and loaded it up, the. I sprayed the whole thing. She got about 1/4 pruned. This week will be a lot of labor on dry days, to get the rest done and spray again. Then we just. Wait a year to see what occurs.
