Sounds like a pretty good deal on a great turn key package to me. Also sounds like that package size is too big for some people's needs. That's fine. Doesn't mean it's not a great package and a great price however.

You'd be "getting" an almost (100 hrs) brand new tractor with $8-10K in free stuff added to it. If I were the seller and you came at me with a low ball $35-38K offer, I'd be telling you to hit the road and don't come back.

If the package size is too big for your uses, or you just don't have the depth in your pocket to go that deep (not meant for the OP as much as for some of the "commentators"), then I would politely pass up the deal. No need to insult a stranger with a really nice tractor and implements for sale.

Just my 2 cents.

This is just bad info. A NEW MX5200HST with backhoe and loader should cost around $38,500. See MSRP price below. A good dealer should get you around a 14% discount.

Now add a $2,000 woods BB72”, $1500 box blade. Done. That’s $42,000. For brand new machine with warranty and 0% financing for 72 months. $583 a month.

That trailer and the post hole digger are probably worth $3,000 to $4,000 if he sells them. Big rip.

I’ve never understood the “buy a used tractor at 90% of the cost of a new one” thinking. End of the day buying new makes good sense with Kubotas. I’ve bought a few.

MSRP is $45,260. TBN is having trouble at the moment with pics.

Only your opinion.

Also, 10K pound equipment trailer?

They hand those out for free with new tractor purchases, do they?

It appears to be a cheaper made trailer. Around $2500 used at the most. Plus he doesn’t need a trailer anyway. At least that’s what he said.

I was hopeful this tractor had been stored in their barn. Was told today that it has been kept outdoors under evergreens(I guess they thought that is supposed to be better than just outside, haha). One benefit is it may have been kept out of most direct sunlight, but not quite what I hoped for. They said the tractor was only used a few times each year to bush hog and maybe a handful of other times.

No, I don't need the trailer. I've already got a 12 ton deck over trailer. About $2,500 used for the trailer in the package is probably an accurate estimate on what you could get for it.

I知 still thinking about making an offer on it. I知 really on the fence about it. 🥺

The initial pictures (albeit fuzzy) did lead one to believe this was a cream puff that was stored indoors. Now it sounds like the OP has had time to go look at it (or at least investigate it further), and unfortunately, it sounds like it was stored outside. That doesn't "kill" a tractor per se, but it does ding the value some.

The OP also said he was interested, but that while the price tag was a bit high, he didn't want to insult the guy by low balling him. Sounds good. Nice guy. Again, this issue of "Not Insulting" the seller was something the OP brought up on his own. Now, without knowing more about the communication that has already occurred between OP and seller, there may be some key phrases that have passed between them that we are not privy to. Such as the seller may have said the magic word "Firm". Or he may have said "No low ballers or tire kickers". He may have also said "Must sell" or "Moving out of state, can't take with". These would be key bits of information that would aid the seller in knowing how to proceed.

We don't have any of that info to go on.

But here is a turn key package that a guy could buy all at one time, and save a Ton of time in searching up loose individual attachments. Other posters have also said it looked like a pretty nice package and wasn't a bad price. Also sounds like some of the attachments are not needed by the potential buyer. Ok. That's also fine. I don't think the asking price is out of line for what you're getting, but none of us has actually seen the equipment in question first hand. Nothing wrong with making a counter offer. There's a heck of a difference between making a "counter offer" and making a "low ball offer".

If after seeing it, I personally thought the asking price was way off the mark, I would be more inclined to just walk away. I have done this frequently myself. If my idea of it's value was somewhat close to the seller's idea of it's value, I'd probably float them an offer (depending on feedback already received from seller-see above examples). But we each have an idea on what something's "value" is. If that number is too far apart from the other guy's number, I usually don't think it's worth my time to mess around with it any longer, and it's time to walk. But an item's True Value is only what you can get someone else to pay for that item at the time of sale.

And I don't think I disagree with you as much as you think there Project King. When I was looking at tractors, they were either destroyed or almost (or sometimes higher) than brand new price. I ended up buying new. I didn't have time to diddle around and wait for that one magical deal on a used cream puff that folks were giving away. Maybe it happens other places, but doesn't seem to happen around here. So I bought new. BUT. What I DIDN'T DO, was call or stop by each of these guys selling their used tractors at (in my opinion) too high a price and berate them, brow beat them, and insult them with a trash low ball offer. I just put my hands in my pockets and walked away. And drove right down to a local dealer and bought a new tractor, for many of the same reasons you listed. Warranty, great financing terms, etc, etc.

Maybe you (Project King) should go visit the seller in person? Offer him 2 sheckles and a half eaten cheese sandwich for his tractor. See how he reacts. Maybe he'll laugh and clap you on the shoulder and say "Nice one". Maybe he'll tie the long hair on your head to the short hairs on your hind end and roll you out to your car. Would be interesting to see. I don't give a dry fart in a wind storm either way.

Good luck to the OP anyway, in which ever direction he goes.

Just some data points.

I just bought an MX5400 and it's great, and I have a lot of hilly terrain, and the tractor is _wider_ than pretty much any lower HP model Kubota makes. It's doing very well on the hills.

I spent $44K (not incl. taxes) for the HST model with ROPS, loaded tires and attachments as in the following image. That's the heavy duty bucket, medium duty 6' rotary cutter (w/ slip clutch - expensive choice), heavy duty scraper. Of course I paid a premium for the attachments buying it this way, but I'm okay with that. Got what I wanted and needed, warrantees, dealer support, etc.

If I wanted to haul the tractor with loader, bucket, and cutter, well, that's 7000 lbs, and even if I had the trailer for that (which would probably weigh at least 2000 lbs) , it would be dicey to do this on my my 9000 lb nominally rated truck.

Anyway, food for thought perhaps. The MX is six kinds of awesome and I'm lovin' it. Good luck.

Only other thing I can suggest is make sure the tractor has the hydraulics you want for your intended purposes. That's a pricey pain point if it doesn't. $800 for third function in front, ~2k for 2, or 3? scv's in the rear. I can't remember what the dealer quote was.

The other tactic I have sometimes used if it looks like there is a pretty good spread between what I want to pay and what the seller is willing to take is to say:

Look, I can't quite get to your number. I wish you luck in selling it. I am willing to give you $xxxx, so at least you have a number that someone will give you. Here's my telephone number if you want to make the sale.

Yeah, I certainly thought it was a babied creme puff and had been sitting in their barn out of the elements. The pics definitely give that appearance, but the owners were honest about keeping it outdoors and under evergreen trees. I have not gone to see it in person. Just communicated a little over the phone. I think the only thing maintenance wise they have done on it was an oil change last month. I know it only has 100 hours on it, but seems like it would be good to change all the fluids and filters, correct?

They seem to be pretty firm on the price so I am going to make an offer on what I feel comfortable to pay and walk away from it if they do not wish to negotiate.
