Little girl killed by rattlesnake

/ Little girl killed by rattlesnake #51
In all my time I have never had a rattle snake coil and rattle at me, and Ive killed quite a few. As one poster said, they aint afraid of the devil.
Copperheads seem to coil fast, at least around here.
I will say that far fewer are spotted around here now than when I was younger. Neighbor lady was bit a couple of years ago. The Dr. called it a dry bite, no poison. She never saw whether it was a rattler or copperhead.
When my son was young he would have his buddies here for the weekend and I would have to explain the snake situation to them.
My sons first school show and tell was a box of rattles I had cut off.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ He would be a good candidate for the use of a Snake Charmer.

Don稚 see those as much anymore. Not sure why.

I can think of one reason why. It's why I quit shooting my "410 snake charmer". I was using it to "charm" the undesirable black birds and magpies in the yard. If I clean those up once a year or so then there are a lot more canary's and finches flying around in the yard.

One day I started to think a bit and did the math. Magnum 410 shells were costing me around $4 each. If I used my 12 gauge instead and bought trap shooting shells the cost dropped to $1/shell. The 12 gauge trap shells have marginally more distance then the 410 shells but considerably more shot. The recoil and noise are about the same.

You are definitely using the right tool for that job now!

He also pays a lot more for shells than I do. Even the target loads for my 28 gauge are only about 60 cents.

I keep thinking about a Mossberg Shockwave 20 ga to leave on the tractor. Water Moccasins are my problem. I kill several every year. I try to remember to grab a pistol when I am doing work in our bottom. In the hills on my place all I see is King snakes which are given a pass. But all Moccasins are given a treatment of lead.

Late yesterday afternoon, I was doing a little bush hogging sans pistol in the bottom and a Moccasin was lying at the end of a culvert. I just watched as it crawled into a hole.

Back in 2011 I was in a remote area of Nevada walking up to an old mine head-frame with all kinds of junk strewn about. Some of that junk was old woven fire hose which sorta looks like a snake. I was traveling in the direction of the red arrow and you can see my foot indentations. I magically levitated over this Rattlesnake who was trying to warm up from a cold morning.

Ya but you are in the US and I'm in Canada. I take your prices and add about 35%. Puts me pretty close $ wise just about every time. If I want to buy shells in the US I need to buy a $2200/year licence from the US government. It's not worth it.

I once stepped on one in the shop where I was working. If I could have flown straight up I would have. I don't know why I didn't get bit! I killed it and left it there for the next person to step on.
