I would rather something be lying on the floor or bench top then stuffed in a drawer with unrelated stuff.

My BIGGEST issue? Stuff nicly packed away in boxes, in cabinets, one piled in front of the other and you have to take out ten to get at one, only to find the thing you seek, not there, or the wrong thing, then leaving everything on the floor.

That's why you gotta stuff it in with related stuff, like moi. Then, people come over and marvel at how clean my floor and benches are...only I know my dirty secret. :D

I even freak out, when the Lady Friend wants to clear off the dining table (so we can eat), and if she had her way, would put all manner of unrelated stuff in ONE box! Happened only last weekend. MAYBE, I did have a drink or two, but I proceeeded to park the stuff in seperate places all over the kitchen, to TRY and make my point.

I like good packaging, and those look great. Does the tool quality look like it's as nice as the packaging? I'm sure those are imported like nearly everything these days, but in what country are they made?

These are some of the beefiest oil drain tools I've seen or used. I went to their site and found this "We are a family-owned and operated tool manufacturer located in Washington State, USA." Automotive Specialty Tools & Accessories by Motivx Tools

Quick story about changing the oil on my wife's new GMC Yukon. I took off the oil cap set it down, went inside the garage to get a rag to check the oil and I never saw the oil cap again. I looked for more than an hour in every crack and crevis on that thing. I stook back thinking is it in plain sight and I just don't see it, after all, it's as big as a baseball it can't hide in that many spots.

I never did find it I had to order a new on. That bugged me the entire time we owned that vehicle. I was always waiting for it to pop out and tear up the radiator and fan as it bounced around.

I'm lucky to have some of my father's old hand tools. Not many; a few pliers, one hammer, and his old trim saw.
And although he has been gone for 50 years, sometimes when I pick up one of his favorites and begin to use it I can feel him come and stand there. Quiety nodding, watching, and approving as I work.

I still can't cut anything straight to save my life. MAYBE it's remembering my father (still alive) telling me (with apparent disgust) how to use the TOTAL stroke of the blade or that it only cuts in one direction.

... Better Tools than, toys, collectables, hobby and recreational stuff.

Wait wait, why not all the above! :)

my collectables is pretty thin actually, a few #3 Die cast cars is about it and a few Tim Cox paintings.

It never ceases to amaze me, how many tools I often have out at the completion of a "simple" task. Tools usually do get put away, but I still have a HUGE mess everywhere from finished projects.
Amen to that!!

I finally got a poly rolling cart to store all tools while working on a project. At least then theres a chance that they will get put back where they belong. Years ago i added pallet shelving in my shop and sorted it out. Way easier to work. I also tend to purchase less of the same tool...that i can no longer locate.

Took me years, but I finally have the wife convinced about tools. I'm the guy that buys tools that I "may need someday". Eventually, that day does come sometimes years later but that day does come and that tool I bought way back then was the perfect solution. Most times the wife is helping out on projects and has witnessed first hand that the right tool for the job makes the job so much easier.

Most often it also amazes me when I say, "you know I bought this tool year ago and I think it will be perfect for this job" sure enough after I scaper the dust off the box that I never opened there is that tool I needed and it was just what I needed.

I do have some collectibles. Pretty much all Tractor and Farm Related Dinky and Corgy Models. Those were the days. No oil changes, filters or repairs.

Sometimes I feel my pops watching me quietly, too.... only he's cringing with one eye open hoping what I do doesn't explode again! He was a patient man and I miss him.

I was a MAC tool distributor from 1988 to 1996.
No need to tell me about being a tool junkie!
Wife likes it because she gets to buy neat sewing machines, embroidery machines, etc.
It sure is nice to have the right stuff!

I love tools. Here is my home made stainless steel tool tray with collapsing, folding handle. Tool Tray.jpgTool Tray Handle Up.jpgTool Tray Handle Down.jpg I carry it up on the plane to work on the doors or inside the cockpit or cabin.

It fits in the center opening in my SnapOn cantilever tool box sitting on top of my SnapOn Taco Wagon. Tool Box Hangar Taco Wagon.jpg That is it to the right of the red adult tricycle. I bought the Taco Wagon new, in 1986 for $2600. It is all full of SnapOn tools and sheet metal tools. My ex was blown away years ago when I stated there was over $10,000 worth of tools in it.

So yeah........I like tools. Next month I bring the Taco Wagon home, as I am retiring Sept. 15th.

Also, I agree that tools that have to be unrolled to use don't get used much. I have a rollup combo wrench set in my truck.
hugs, Brandi

I am not really a tool guy, as I tend to be a minimalist by nature.

I used to be quite different in that I loved the finished project, so lots of tools helped me accomplish that, but then I realized how silly I was being. I realized it was not the finished project that gave me satisfaction, it was actually doing the project that I liked.

So I slowed down and started doing things by hand more, like hand-planing lumber instead of power-planing it, cutting hand cut dovetails instead of having jigs and noisy machines, and rebuilding a diesel engine using hand wrenches instead of rattle guns.

I have found that not only do I spend a lot less money on tools, because my slower approach means I am more deliberate; the project just comes out better. But mostly, I get the satisfaction of being in being in my shop and working.

This is a crappy picture, but this ole railroader built a train cradle for my daughter doing almost all of it by hand tools. That included hand cut dovetails, hand cut lovetails, etc. Building it was really a lot of fun...
