Paying attention, being careful, experience, it all helps prevent accidents. Any one can have a moment when things go wrong. Unforeseen circumstances, equipment failure, holes, light stroke, to much heat, to many to list and probably could not thing of a fraction of the possible problems.

We all have to decide what the risk level is that we wish to deal with. Most of us have never made the paper or obits. Those that have made the paper and obits were also operating at the risk level they felt comfortable with. You can google tractor accidents and many will be from improper operating. Many are equipment failures, such as safety items not working or being used as intended. Things happen. Best of luck to each and everyone, and their loved ones, with the choices made.

i never minded the seat switch on my old JD870 because they had a built in bypass...lift seat, pull out switch plunger. you used this when operating pto equipment while off of tractor such as a log splitter. but if you sat on seat, it depressed plunger back to normal use. now on my new cab tractor there are no seat switches...only a neutral and pto switch. they figure you wont fall out of a cabbed tractor and get run over. i hate seat switches, but never disabled mine because i was afraid the clumsy wife or someone else could get hurt. by no means am i a safety police person...i hate most of these warning devices. such as the sticker on my wifes blender that stated do not use in shower. saw.jpg sign 2.jpeg sign 3.jpg haha.jpg haha2.jpg

I seriously can't think of a good reason to get off the seat while the tractor is in gear!. if it's in gear, the tractor SHOULD shut down if you get off the seat!. common sense!..

for a geared tractor, yes. but how about an HST. i stand on ground and move my tractor back and forth with peddle to hook up implement. that being said, i did have a startle last week. the HST return spring popped off while operating in heavy brush. its quite a start to have the tractor keep going after i lifted my foot off of the peddle. all i had to do was quickly press the reverse till it hit center, but if that happened to the wife, it might have been different. im going to instruct her about possibility this weekend. im going to also try to fabricate a shield to prevent this from happening again. first time in 10 years it happened.

Not really. Some times you have to stand up for various things. I, for one, have to stand up lots of times when I'm tilling the orchards. I need to push the branches away so I don't break them. Other times I have to stand up to see the tip of the forks. The list goes on and on. Another one is, since my have tractor has an open platform, when I'm doing long runs on mowing or tilling, I just stand up to stretch my legs a little bit, but I do have a mid mounted ROPS which provides a good handle.

anti-scald valves

Anti-scald valves, like seat switches, are moronic wussie things, to try to protect people from their own stupidity !

ya, the forks are a good reason to stand up while moving. i have to just about cram my head into cab roof to see forks when loading a generator pallet. would definitely hate engine to shut off

My 93 year old father in law with dementia and a bunch of little kids would beg to differ. ;)
