What if you just put a pto driven generator on the electric tractor and run forever for nothing?

And hook light bulbs up to photocells and get free light forever...That's the ticket...!

Unfortunately energy does not work that way...:D

The term that explains your experience is "consumer grade"...

In times past the general rule of thumb was you got what you paid for...these days...warranties are more indicative of quality than price...

Don稚 fool yourself with the assumption of consumer grade! You have no clue the extent of my business endeavors or the different machines I have had experiance with weather it was first hand or from one of my business partners.

Are you saying the perpetual motion machine is a myth?
I believe that things are going to change a lot in the nest 10 years. It would be interesting to revisit this thread in 2030 and see how much things have changed.

I’m sure things will have changed in 10 years but a perpetual motion machine probably won’t be one of them.

A tractor would need batteries that could last long enough for the job at hand with the power needed - that is a somewhat tall order. One thing in favor for electric tractors is the need for the batteries to be lightweight is not so critical. Often, it would be just the opposite - the added weight would be a good thing.

If I knew I could get all the work needed done without the fear of dying in the field AND know that I could fully charge in a short time - sure, I would use an electric tractor. But not if I have to carry a portable charger or extra battery pack in case I run out of fuel - unless they can make replacement batteries the size of 5 gal fuel cans.

Do any of you leave a tractor in a field overnight or lets say a week or more at a time? How is a battery system going to work for that? Weight is also an issue if you have to haul the tractor at some point you’re looking at a lowboy vs what you’re standard hobbyists can move have you ever priced a lowboy ride before? Most of ours are 125 an hour from the shop to return to the shop plus permits if needed.

I remember the technology exhibitions at the 1964-65 worlds fair...by the middle '80's' we were just beginning to see some of the stuff that was presented as "the future" at the time of the fair...since then technology advancements have been exponential...

There is more we don't know about utilizing the energies of the universe than we do know...If we can keep from wiping ourselves out with weapons including viruses etc...we will continue to discover more and more...

As an off the wall prediction...If we could discover a way to compress elements (like hydrogen for instance) to the density of something like star matter...a single CC of "fuel" would last a (current) lifetime...!

Since most people don't put more than about 50 hours a year on their CUTs and SCUTs, it might work just fine to have an electric machine.

Technically a lithium ion battery powered CUT will work fine just like an lithium ion powered chainsaw or drill does for some of us. Now most of us already own more tractor power than we are ever going to wear out so we just are not in the need for any more tractors.

An electric PU or car most likely will be of interest before a tractor to the masses but it is still battery life and the power it can hold is tail that wags the dog. Just 2 days ago Tesla announced their 520 mile battery that will be out in the Model S Plaid by the end of 2021 will contain their next gen battery cells that offer a 50% increase in range at a 50% lower cost meaning a $3000 lower build cost per car.

After a few more generations of battery advances electric tractors may be on par or cheaper than diesel tractors. What will help electric tractor sales I expect is the $25,000 self driving Tesla that was just announced expected in 2023 or 2024 since Tesla at this time is bringing the most advances in the technology. People have to grasp the Why of electric chainsaws and tractors before we can see owning one. We know the days of fossil fuels are dependent on when buying fossil fuel fueled machines are greater than battery powered machines. That cross over price point will come I expect between 2025-2030 for tractors. For cars it will come when quality EV's with full self driving can be purchased in the mid $20K range.

Just like with cars I expect we will see electric tractors in mass in China and Europe 20 years before in the USA.

Spell checker buddy, it sometimes even changes the entire word on me. Again a computer doing what ever it wants to just more to prove my point!
