- Yanmar LX410...IHI 35J excavator Woodmizer LT40
If the dealership were to fail for any reason what am i left with?
You'd be in the same boat I am.
Bought mine from a local dealer that has been in town for 40-50 years selling Ford tractors, then New Holland and took on the Yanmar line for 3-4 years (the period which I bought mine), and then dropped it. The dealer is still there if you want a New Holland, or Case (they picked that line up a few years back when the local Case dealer went out), but no longer service Yanmar.
I get my parts now from a dealer 1 1/2 hours away. Fortunately, I only had to go there once to set up an account, now I can call, order the part ( I have a parts manual for my tractor....parts guy at the local dealer I bought the tractor burned me a copy on a thumb drive), and have it drop shipped to the house.
Funny thing...this is the 2nd time this has happened to me (takes me a while to learn).
1985 I bought a Yanmar 22hp model 220D that was my very first tractor from a local dealer, only have Yanmar stop selling tractors under their own brand (they cut that deal with John Deere to make their compact tractors thru the 90's) and I really had a hard time finding parts then. (Internet was just getting cranking) It was one of the things that influenced me to sell that fine tractor in 1998 and buy a bigger NH....a 33hp model 1925 with front loader.
The BEST tractor in the world is just a boat anchor if you can't get a critical part for it when you need it.
I'm to the age of life where there is not likely another tractor in my future, so I'll keep my current LX410, maintain/repair as needed, until it's somebody's inheritance, but IF I were to buy again, Yanmar wouldn't fool me into another one.....simply because it doesn't appear their heart is really in maintaining lasting relationships with their dealers or customers. Just my observation, ya'll's mileage may vary.
