Hello, Has anyone every replaced a rear cab window with Lexan? Mine shattered and Mahidra wants $1200 for a new rear glass and there is no stock. The window has a slight curve to it so a glass shop cannot replace either...

Lexan (polycarbonate) can be shaped. Being a rear window you wouldnt need a real thick piece and should be able to get your curve. Most plastics shops can help.

My rear glass was shattered by a hydraulic kickback of my 3pt Post Hole Digger upon startup and was my fault. New tractor owner mistake. I replaced the rear glass in my Kioti cab for $245. Did the install myself in just 4 hours work. I used Lexan for 3 months until the rear glass part arrived at my dealer for pickup.

So no way glass costs $1200 from Mahindra....perhaps your dealer inflates the price or that is the full install cost with all labor included. I can see rear glass being a part in very short supply and Lexan being a temporary fix.

Recycle the rubber molding the original rear glass was mounted in, and then use this for the Lexan as the weather seal. Avoid mounting any windshield wiper units to the Lexan, because it is not strong enough to support the heavy wipers. Use a dremel tool from home depot to cut your Lexan sheet to proper size. Cut to full size of the rear enclosure as starting size, and then slowly....very slowly trim off just enough so that it fits in the enclosure with the rubber molding. This can be a repetitive process with Lexan. However, the rear glass when finally delivered by Mahindra.... is a perfect fit with the rubber molding installed. Just take your time and good luck with the install.

So... how did you break the glass (twice)?
Plexiglass has minimal strength and easily shatters. Polycarbonate / Lexan is many times stronger and easy to work with. Well worth the extra cost
A quote.... "Acrylic has roughly 17 times the impact resistance. Polycarbonate is the stronger material at 250 times the impact resistance of standard glass. Polycarbonate offers much more resilience than acrylic, making it ideal for highly demanding applications".

Ok, full disclosure......when I was using the tractor I had the rear window open and when I raised the 3 pt. I wasnt paying attention. Yes twice. As for the term "plexi glass" I use that interchangably for any type of plastic that can be used to replace glass.

Yep....same way I shattered the rear cab window at only 23hrs use. Newbie tractor mistake. Specifically, I had a 3pt implement (Post Hole Digger) that must be raised quite high when moving the tractor around so nothing drags. Top of PHD is only 5" from the glass. I parked the tractor for the night, with it in raised position. Overnight hydraulic bleed off lowered the PHD to the ground. Next morning upon startup the 3pt raised very quickly to its pre shutdown position, and sent the top of the PHD into the fully closed rear window and it shattered into a thousand pieces like safety glass should. I was so embarrassed, I did not even purchase the replacement glass from my dealer, but ordered from another dealer, and installed myself.

To avoid it from happening again, I lower implements to the ground prior to shut down of the tractor. Upon tractor startup, the 3pt simply goes to the pre shutoff setting....which is on the ground and well away from my glass.

So, lowering implements, like the book says, will save you money.
