I have occasional float issue also...pops out. It is a simple fix, i even have the part....in a box on the shelf. But i never get around to fixing it. Actually it isnt much of an issue.

its called a positioner. its easy to replace, you just need to not be as lazy as i am. i actually got the part while tractor was under warranty about 6 years ago. still sitting on shelf. i hear that the part is not cheap though. with mine, the problem is it keep starting to work again. it did after i got the part. then failed during the winter. the next spring it was working again. its now working again. go figure. heres a few pics of it/Curiously, what fails in it and how easy is it to repair?
I have the same year & model with a bit over 1000 hr, and I agree it's a solid tractor. Feels a lot more stable on uneven terrain than the JD750 I had before.
FEL joystick acts kind of funky in float position (jumps out a lot, sometimes doesn't go into float mode). Probably a simple fix, but not sure how those things work.
Really, my only gripes are that the operating position could be a little better laid out...easy to bump the key with your knee, hook pants cuff on the PTO lever, etc. but all in all I'm happy with it.
Many floats on different makes ofl machines tend to wear out quite quickly. A few spring loaded balls at the end of the spool. Often a kit is available. I think the tolerences are just extremely tight because to look at a used non-functioning one, you couldn't tell that anything was worn out.
TIP: Grease up the balls before you try and put the new one together.
Oh and I just replaced another leaking o-ring in backhoe valve body. Will no longer use factory o-rings, they turn to jelly. I’ve replaced them all.
