I don't even mess around with them anymore. I use a "shaker" siphon hose to fill my fuel tank; put the can in the tractor bucket, raise it above the filler nozzle, and let gravity do it's job. For my saw I keep a gallon can about half full, and take the stupid nozzle off. I can usually do it without spilling much.
I just replaced mine with spouts similar to these. Technically, they can only be sold in my state for "water cans" (nudge nudge wink wink), but they fit cas cans just fine.
Realized yesterday ist has folding mirrors (stupid considering they are quite small) and a heated steering wheel. Ridiculous! But I couldn't figure out how to operate the HVAC system! So I just gave up, rather than hitting a tree or something! Give me a fan speed knob and a heat level knob!
Unfortunately, we old geezers who like it simple are apparently in the minority, and not who the carmakers are marketing to. Younger people love the techie stuff.
