Rat and mouse traps

Buddy just lost his new Diesel King Ranch to an engine fire cause by either ground squirrels or mice building a nest over the turbo charger that ignited as he was driving down the road. Total loss, burned to the ground before the fire department arrived.

For rat spring traps I used ground beef in a small piece of cheesecloth tied to the trigger.

This reminds me, my trap board has two mice on it that were caught last night... I just set it by the front door next to the firewood rack, no bait necessary...

On another note, I attached a picture if a giant pocket gopher I caught last sunday... for scale that is a 16oz beverage can next to it...

The other picture is why I despise voles, I have many areas that look like that around there, it is extremely annoying. I think I need to make several of my trap boards, bait them and put them around active areas and put a rubbermaid tub over it so they feel safe and just keep doing that for MONTHS since that area probably indicates thousands of the bastages...

^^^^ This thread and that post is reminding me to refresh the peanut butter in my 3 bucket traps.

I re-freshed my cage trap last night with peanut butter but I didn't expect this...

It is a brown tree python. venomous. Obviously likes peanut butter and not happy about being caught at all.
It was in my barn.

Yes they love them and it did have a bulge in its' belly so I suspect that is why it entered the trap. I drove him away about 6 klm and let it go.

I'm pretty sure the list of venomous lifeforms in my area is:

Mosquitoes
Yellow Jackets
Paper Wasps
Honey Bees
Bumble Bees

And I like it that way... mosquitoes aren't avoidable, yellow jackets are sometimes avoidable and the rest leave you alone if you don't bug them depending on the situation... just have garder snakes and I think red racer? similar just different colors...

We sure do not have the critters many do to worry about and I am not complaining. Although we do have murder hornets on the way thanks to the Canadians and their international transport connection. :muttering: :muttering: :muttering:

Just primed up my 6 Victor wood base traps with Skippy. I'm sure I'll be catching some tonight.

Looks like an old whipped out fire hose.....:D I know what I'd do with that and it isn't open the door either.

Best mouse trap goo is Skippy smooth, needs no refrigeration so it's on the shelf in the barn, always handy and a little dab always will do you and them.

I leave my PB in a cupboard in my barn. The barn is actually quite cool even on a hot day so the PB keeps quite OK.
No meeces the last 2 nights. Starting to think I have had a win.

Score so far. 20 meeces and 1 snake.

Bingo ! Put some chocolate chips in it too, they're toxic for mice. then you can get the second mouse at a trap too.

If I make a bucket trap, instead of water in the bottom, I'll put beer.

:)

Bruce

What kind of beer do they prefer and do you have to open it for them?

No bait, they just like to go in the shaped opening in the side of the trap,,
This is one nights catch,,

The image is purposely small so as to not show too much detail,,

Looks like a quart Mason jar and a length of heat riser hose... Care to elaborate a bit on it. I'm all about new and progressive ways to eradicate meeces..... I take it they 'get a bath' when they get inside, in some liquid...Beer maybe?

True, for me mosquito bites are irritating until I build a tolerance later in the year (how this works, not sure, but less itch after a few dozen...) but the most annoying is the yellow jacket since I'm apparently allergic to their venom... paper wasps are like 3 mosquitoes, honey bees aren't far behind and not sure on the bumble bees... I learned the hard way to just take Benadryl and use a Sting Kill on yellow jacket stings, got stung in the eyebrow once while leaf blowing and went to the emergency room and $550/30 minutes later I was sent out saying I did the right thing with Benadryl and sting kill and a prescription for some steroid...

I gotta ask, what's the contraption with the 5 gallon water jug and ABS fitting behind the mouse trap?

^^ yes. I once used some natural Adams peanut butter, not thinking about it. Got moldy real quick and dripped off into the bucket.
