While we're reminiscing, some of my best memories was listening to WLS in Chicago. Anyone from the Midwest knew about that great station.
They had the best DJ's, even a few women DJ's. Larry Lujak and Clark Weber were my favorites, but most all of them were great. I had a transistor radio I would listen to after I went to bed, and sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night with it still on. Went through a lot of batteries.
Then there were the serials, like Chicken Man and Animal Stories.

Extra credit question. What was Clark Weber's wife's name? Well, what he called her on air anyway.

Edit: What was Dick Biondi's wife's name? Well, what he called her on air anyway.
Biondi got canned for using the "F" word on air a couple of times.

When I was a kid in Southwest Missouri growing up in the late 60's and early 70's WLS was great to listen to. "eighty nine....W....L....S"

50 Kilowatts of pure rocking tunes coming to you as soon as the sun went down. It just didn't get any better. Of course we didn't even have FM stereo radios in our cars in those days. AM rock stations were king. Good times..

You could get gas heaters in early 60s Corvairs.

I've never ridden in a Corvair in winter, so I don't know how it worked. From what I've read, when you ordered a Corvair, you had 3 heat options...
None
Gasoline
Engine air

And I think they only had the gasoline heaters for a couple years. From other things I've read, the engine air heaters worked well in the Corvairs as long as you kept all the shrouds and such in good condition.

Personally, as a kid, my parents had many Volkswagens. 4-5 buses, a beetle, and a Karmann Ghia. From the early 60's into the 80's. They all had engine air. And we all froze in the winter!

In college in Wisconsin in the winter. Close friend killed a pedestrian because he couldn't see out the windshield of his mid 60s bug. Yea he shouldn't have been driving it that way. Easy to say now.

I've had a few mid 60s bugs. Got to where i could drop the motor in maybe 10 minutes. Remember kingpins?

You look at vehicles on the road in winter and some people still drive with just a hole cut through the windshield. "Experts" discourage you from warming up your vehicle before driving... it isn't uncommon to hit a temperature in winter and have that nicely scraped windshield turn to ice. I want enough heat coming out of my defroster to keep that from happening.

Remember the "High speed wobble?" God riddance, along with mechanical brakes, hand cranks and plate glass windshields.

I realize that not everyone can do this but all my daily drivers are stored inside. My wife and I never have to scrape the frost off the windows if we are at home. You don't need much shelter. We don't have doors on the garages.

WLS didn't really come in all that well here in New England, but as a teen in the 60s I did spend a lot of time listening to WKBW from Buffalo and WBZ in Boston.

WLS was good. We could pick it up in north Florida under the certain conditions.
