I was a member of BMWCCA for years, huge bmw owners group, not unlike this forum, a bunch of nice folks trying to help each other out. I still have the bmw i bought 27 years ago from a 2 star general I knew, he was also a member. He left the stars on the windshield. I have seen guys snap to attention when they see it, truth. I always tell them, not me.

My wife at the time was at a stop lite and got rear ended at 45 MPH by a huge BFI garbage truck. I thought BFI stood for BIG F***ing insurance settlement but, it didn't.

Totaled the car, 633 creampuff, but very little injury. They make pretty good cars.

The insurance tried to play their games so I instantly went to the bmw club because they had a guy called an ombudsman? He collected pricing info from every member when ever they bought or sold their bmws. He built a data base. He was able to prove, through a long list of sales figures, that my car was worth much more and I got it! Thx to the ombudsman!

If you are not happy with what they offer, and it's a legitimate gripe, don't take it, stand up to them!

Many years ago I had a similar situation with USAA.... of all companies.
Never expected a problem with USAA.
I provided comparative data, and stood my ground.
I waited them out, and 4 months after the accident, I finally got a fair settlement.

Insurance firms sure like to collect but sure hate to disburse.
I also had difficult claims in past.

Following a 'smash and grab' on my Audi the insurers tried to depreciate every little item down to each piece of plastic trim,
The radio had been the main target and the insurers refused to replace with same model claiming it had depreciated.
They also insisted that I prove the radio was factory installed demanding that I produce the invoice to prove so.
At that time all Audis were fully equipped.
Also they wanted me to pay for all repairs and they'd later reimburse.
I raised such a stink (very loudly) in that small packed claim office that they folded and called out a purchase order to effect my claim.
However I never got an exact replacement radio.

Not commonly known is that any 'addons' you install actually need to be declared otherwise they can refuse payment.

On the other hand I also have enjoyed excellent claim satisfaction on 2 occasions.
Once with a home water damage claim on a rental property.
Another when I severally damaged an aircraft that I owned.

Needless to say I am still using those insurers.
While I only made honest claims, not attempting to profit, I actually came out ahead with both the rental and aircraft claims.

About 10 years ago, my Ram pickup was totaled by a deer that didnt look left and right before crossing the road. :D The deer hit the front of the truck head down about the middle of the grill and then slapped the side of the truck. The truck was about 10 years old at the time. The grill was destroyed and the transmission cooler, A/C radiator and coolant radiator were all pushed back but none of them leaked. The passenger side door was caved. We were camping in Utah and feared for the worst. With bailing wire and duct tape I put it back together enough to drive it and the trailer back to CA. I was insured by a company that started in Manitoba Canada (Wawanesa Insurance) and then opened in Oregon and California. I have been with then for over 40 years and after checking from time to time, no one has been able to better their premiums. JD Powers rated them #1 in CA for Customer satisfaction in 2020. But I digress.

They appraised the damage and determined that it exceeded 50% of value. They gave me a value that I thought was very fair but then I mentioned that I had just put new tires on before the trip. The adjuster asked me what I paid for the tires and said OK, we will add that to the payment. Now that is good customer service.

It did have a camper shell on the bed, but they said since it was after market they would not pay for it. It came off easy for resale.

If you live in CA or OR I would check with them.

I had "Intact Ins. Co." (Toronto) insurance on my Nova Scotia property.
I lost many roof shingles in a storm while I was away for the Winter, so had interior leakage damage as well.
They chose a repair contractor (I think he padded the cost), and he was outstanding to work with.
The most pleasant experience possible for a loss situation.
Intact raised the annual premium by 50% the following year, but the property sale closed just a week before my premium was due.

"That situation would be very iffy had it gone to court!
Shooting at your own stolen truck while it was being driven in a shopping mall parking lot?
Her life was likely not in danger.

If she had killed the thief, in many states she would have been charged with murder.
If I had been on a jury, and those were the proven conditions, I likely would have been willing to vote for a murder conviction.

I am NOT an anti gun liberal,..... and I do have a permit to carry.
Shooting for other than protection of life, in a public parking lot, is 100% reckless in my opinion."

I certainly agree that shooting in a parking lot is 100% reckless. Also, too many witnesses; exactly what the LEOs advise against. They want to talk to you after you have calmed down and have your attorney with you. They want all the other "witnesses" to be deceased miscreants. The LEOs say, "We're going to know this guy. He's someone we have picked up and had him convicted time after time." They don't want to ever hear that guy say another word (lie), and they advise you to make sure of that as the state will give him a free attorney if he's alive.

In our state you don't have to be defending your person, but it doesn't hurt of course. You can use any level of force needed to protect your property, and it certainly doesn't have to be on your property. About 14 years ago a pastor caught two druggies in the basement of his church. I think they were stealing copper pipes. By the time he shot them they were outside and he dropped both of them with his Ruger .357 Blackhawk through the window. Strangely, he shot one in the knee and the other in the foot but both bled out. He received an unofficial award from the state prison agency which stated how much he saved the state in corrections cost at $90 per day.

Law enforcement is fed up. So are crime victims. In this state anyone who can legally touch a gun can carry one concealed or open, except in a school or in a bar that doesn't serve any food (even pickled eggs). No permit is needed (except the Constitution). No alcohol can be consumed while carrying a gun.

Good morning,

Just curious : I am interested to know the name of this State.
Could it be in US ?
From my past travels I may suggest :
South Africa or actual Brasil ?.....
Help please !
What is the most liberal State regarding to guns laws in US ?
Vermont ? Texas ?

Phil

I guess you are asking that question of JFrame.

I heard the same thing about water, in my 1970 freshman intro to something class. I agree, 100%. According to the prof., that makes Canada the richest nation in the world?

Now, how we gonna get that water?

You already have water rights that were negotiated under Nafta. I'm surprised you didn't know that.... Keep on keeping on bro.

FUNNY, I think someone Stole my Steiner 430 MAX and V-Plow. Looking at ads this morning on Kijiji (a Canadian Classified Service Owned by E-Bay) Guy wants to trade a 6 foot blade for a V-Blade. He posted a picture of MY STEINER, stuck in deep snow, that I posted here years ago. And my drive shed!

My favorite crime story happened in Florida where two thieves were running from the cops, jumped into a pond at night, and were promptly eaten by gators.
