Always always always buy a bigger trailer than you think you need. The size only seems intimidating for a few weeks, then you get used to it.
You can always live with a few feet of unused trailer deck, but you can never stop wishing you bought a bigger trailer when your equipment won’t fit!

Have 16' Imperial equipment trailer (steel deck). 20' would be better. Electrical issue - all lights are on deck. Bad electrical contact at tilt swivel and lights don't work. Add a ground wire from deck frame to trailer tounge

What I don't like about a tilt bed is the axles are too far forward. Depending on the load it can be hard to get hitch weight. The longer the better to help offset the axles better and allow for better load placement.

I concur. The last 15-20% or so of a gravity tilt deck really can't take any load if you want proper tongue weight. A small fixed deck in front helps balance them, but due to the deck pivot, most have their axles way to far forward. My old gravity tilt really couldn't be towed empty. You needed to add weight up front to prevent fishtailing.

I had a 16' gravity tilt. Beefy trailer, nice & low, easy to load a tractor on. But its was way to short. Also due to a lip around the side & fenders, it sucked to load anything on that couldn't drive on.

I was expecting to get another gravity tilt. I ended up with a 22' Diamond C deckover power tilt. It's OK to load a tractor on. Pretty steep deck when tilted & implements often scrape a hair. But forking a pallet over the side is trivial. If I were to replace the new trailer, it would be a tough choice to stick with a power tilt deckover or go back to a lower gravity tilt. I mostly haul the tractor, which is marginally harder to load, but hauls other stuff better. A gravity tilt has a noticably lower deck, which is better for loading a machine on & more stable on the road. You only get 82" or so between the fenders, unless you go for a deckover that can be up to 102" wide. Some trailers have drive over fenders to split the difference, but I've never used one.

My flail mower won't fit between fenders, so that rules out most gravity tilts for now, unless I can balance out properly driving forward. I back on now & am not sure if I could balance pointed backwards on a 20-22" deck.

So far Kauffman is in the lead. $5200 for the “deluxe”, adds rub rails, tool box and a bit better built. Would be a 14k derated to 9999. 82”x20’, 6’ fixed front deck, spare wheel and tire.

Just have to figure out if I want to run for it, 14 hour round trip, or pay $400 for delivery.

Waiting on a quote from Cross Country Mfg.

I was busy as heck, so I had mine delivered. Glad I did. It would have cost me a lot in diesel, tolls and trip permits.

Plot twist, may have found a 1 year old Appalachian, locally. Same specs as the Kauffman for $4600.
