You must have had a very different test than mine!
EXCEPTIONALLY uncomfortable!!

I believe it depends on who is doing the administering of the test. The RN that did mine and my wife had been doing it for some time and was very quick and knew just how far up my nose she need to put the swab. All I got from it was wanting to sneeze afterwards, same with my wife. Painless, not overly uncomfortable and quick but then I've had stuff up my nose before as in tubes and I was totally awake for that. Mr. Davis, lean your head back and it won't hurt a bit and it didn't actually, but I lost my voice for about 3 weeks after because the tubes impacted my vocal cords which in my wife's opinion wasn't all bad as I could only squeak.

Other than my ears, I don't believe I've not had any orifice penetrated and I mean everything, including that orifice as well.:D

The nasal swab is nothing.

My experience was TOTALLY different, and it was done in a hospital (I was admitted for rectal bleeding - all fixed now).
It felt like that long stick up my nose, was going to come out my ear!

The problem with "both of us tested negative" is,...... it is in the past tense.
You could both contract the virus the following week.
or the next day for that matter....
fair statement if we were not pro active in protecting ourselves, which we are, always. I know the symptoms of Covid very well and I'm always checking myself just to see. We constantly monitor each other for them, every day actually.

If my doctors requested another test, I'd have no issue with it. neither would my wife. Hopefully we can get vaccinated soon. Myself, I'm in the high risk group anyway so probably won't be long now.

Even after vaccinations I'll still mask up and social distance because you will have no clue who has been and who has not been or who won't. Therein lies the issue I have with vaccination. Should be everyone, no exceptions. Like the Sabin Oral polio vaccine, Everyone got a sugar cube and everyone was happy to get the immunity. My late Mother in Law had polio and it's not a pretty thing.

I sure will be glad when we can return to a somewhat normal life, not that I really mind being a hermit. I don't particularly like people anyway. I find most people tedious at best.

You do realize that under your skin, all the passages in your skull are interconnected anyway? Are you saying you are a bloody a**hole? Not sure I'd admit on any forum to that.....:D Pretty much SOP in any hospital situation now to do a nasal swab which is the most accurate indicator.

You had no worries about it coming out your ear anyway, your eardrum is in the way.....

The 15 minute Rapid Antigen Test is free in Iowa, if you don't mind giving a pint of blood to your local blood center. They will notify you of the results if you start an account on their web site.
I have done it twice this fall and will do it again in a couple weeks.

Both times it was negative.

Something I've wondered about this virus. Fever. The body's first line of defense against about any virus or bacteria is high temperature so I think that taking a medicine that reduces that temperature is not the right way to go unless that temp. is excessively high. Anyway I've had fevers a couple times and let it run, very mile flu with it. Your mileage may vary.

Probably is here to and something I should do anyway. I got filled with donated blood 2 years ago when I had very serious liver surgery. I bled out half of my own blood and got a couple transfusions of blood from unknown donors. I need to reciprocate. Lost some other parts as well. Nothing that I need to discuss on here anyway.

Lets just say I'm very lucky to be here. Thank the Lord for medical science and caring surgeons. Do I remember any of it? Nope and don't want to. I do remember waking up in recovery with stuff stuck in my neck, in both wrists and getting IV drips of all sorts in my arms including some serious narcotics. I figured at that point I needed to go back to sleep and I did. The heart monitor has a calming effect when you are stoned anyway. Lucky to be here and I appreciate every day. Every day is a blessing for me.

Was this a kit you take home or was it an in-pharmacy PA, like a minute clinic, who did the test on you?
I was sick as all get out, but did what my mother taught me, stayed home (well, I plowed snow, but alone in truck) and remembered the old saying “coughs and sneezes spread diseases”.
Im curious if I had it....
The pharmacist gave test, we shopped 15 minutes, same pharmacist gave us results.
They have a private room where she drew blood, made test.

Not all people can wear the correct mask. If someone has upper respiratory issues, COPD, or the many other breathing issues, then they are not supposed to wear an N95 mask or greater. An N95 mask actually restricts the amount of air your breathing in. It's not a big deal for most people. But can have a drastic negative effect on people with certain medical conditions.

Thats why quite a few companies require a fit test and medical evaluation before authorizing an employee to be able to use an N95 mask or respirator.

I hated each year getting fit tests and issued the exact same masks. N95 masks are dust masks at the hangar and when it's hot enough to change clothes 3 times in a 10 hour shift........they are hard to breath through. Glad I was able to take monthly leaves until SWA came out with early retirement plans.

That picture perfectly illustrates ignorance of the purpose for wearing masks in this pandemic. He keeps saying the mask won't protect people that wear it. That's not what it's for. It's to protect others. And it works. For some reason, a small percentage of people just can't seem to comprehend that.

You ever seen the videos wearing a mask and not wearing a mask while sneezing or coughing? The masks just slow the spread. They don't stop everything. Even wearing a mask, I try to distance all I can from other people while out shopping.

That is a common problem now....knowing the difference between opinion and news.

Most reputable newspapers will clearly identify the difference (usually by what section of the paper the article appears in).

We get fit tested and a few are not able to be fitted with what we have to offer... it is an annual exercise.

The Swiss Cheese Strategy

These are the four layers to stop the spread of the virus: Fences, Social Distancing, Contrafection, and Test-Trace-Isolate.
None of them is perfect. All have holes that let infections pass. But together they form an impenetrable defence. You can look at it like layers of Swiss Cheese: ...

Clearly,......distancing is the MOST effective method..... by far!(pun intended)

I joined the covid + club yesterday. So did my son, same day. We had a family dinner (11 folks) on Christmas Eve and my son-in-law was the cook. My SIL tested + on Dec. 26 and must have unknowingly shared it, and he felt terrible about it. My wife just informed me that her sense of taste is gone. Can you say super-spreader? Fortunately, my SIL has already recovered and my son and I are on-the-mend. All symptoms have been mild, so far. None of the 4 grand children have shown symptoms.

"None of the 4 grand children have shown symptoms"

Of course.......but schools remain closed throughout much of the nation.

Dozens of my co-workers have been infected with covid, and to the best of my knowledge, non have been hospitalized. A few have had symptoms that are not flu like, but for the most part, they have compared it to the flu. One had an issue with blood clots.

Many of the inmates have had it as well, and non have been hospitalized because of it.

We have been offered the vaccine, as we are at higher risk than the public around us, and many of us are opting not to receive it, at least at this time.

True, wearing a mask does not guarantee you will not get Covid, but it will lessen the "viral load". With a lower viral load, you may just have minor symptoms versus being very sick or dying. They are now finding out that they can predict your severity by the amount of virus you have.

Yes, I have seen the videos. It slows the spread through the air drastically, which reduces the amount of airborne particles flying across the room to others, which reduces the transmission rate. The whole goal of getting everyone to wear masks is to lower the transmission rate, which means fewer infected people so the hospitals and health care system can catch up.
