cast alum vs cast iron

What year did JD and Kubota start using cast aluminum for the rearends?
Mahindra 1526 (1626 prerelease) vs. Kubota L2501 vs. John Deere 3025e - YouTube
Kubota has been using either cast steel or aluminum or a combination of the two for rear axles. Typically B/LX series use either all aluminum (current models) or aluminum center with cast steel axles extensions some previous models.

The L series and larger use cast steel, the L2501 in that video has a cast steel rear.

Let me throw my two cents in the weight discussion. In my opinion, operating a tractor with a FEL, the points with the highest loads are the front axle and the bell housing. I personally would prefer the weight to be built into the machine. Having thicker sidewalls on certain stress points.
Adding weight to the back of a tractor to keep the rear down puts more stress on the weaker built parts.

That's good to know. The L-Series is what I'd be wanting.

You mean, cast iron instead of cast steel, right?

Depends, a lot of manufactures use cast steel for high stress housings. I know some of the Kubota casting are steel, can't speak for all.

Can you provide an example of a Kubota tractor that has a cast steel housing?

Can't remember model number, it was an older L series I believe. Had to repair a mounting hole.
