Y'all Been Checkin' Lumber Prices?

Everyone around me...has new decks. And three new houses are going up.

Supply and demand.

I work for a lumber company that supplies Lowe's with most of their treated lumber. The last year was the busiest we've ever had. The elevated prices didn't slow us down a bit! When Covid began to get serious we were hoping that would cause us to slow down a bit for at least a short while, but it actually had the opposite effect once the mills began being able to get us lumber.

Our local logging and mill company was deemed for much of 2020 as a non-essential business. Therefore, their mill only operated 3 months total in all of 2020. Logging was even more rare then. I've not reached out to them since last year. They supply pines for the utility industry and wood works for the cabinet industry.
My inquiry is for the sawdust for farm uses in the winter.

The mill and logging closing sucks. Only other thing I can say.............is.............move to Texas.

No, Texas is horrible - stay away. Traffic is awful, the roads are bad, you see as many out of state plates as you do Texas ones, just getting way too crowded. With all of the California people moving here we will end up with a state income tax before long, just stay away. I did hear that Oklahoma is real nice and has legal weed so that would be a better option.

No, Texas is horrible - stay away. Traffic is awful, the roads are bad, you see as many out of state plates as you do Texas ones, just getting way too crowded. With all of the California people moving here we will end up with a state income tax before long, just stay away. I did hear that Oklahoma is real nice and has legal weed so that would be a better option.

Oh, oh yeah. I misspoke. I meant to say Oklahoma. I think the bridges are out on the Red River also.

We used to have that problem with all of the CA people moving north. The beginning of the nuttiness for our big cities. Still do have the influx problem from CA to some extent, but I am sure glad they are headed east your way. God help you.

Houses are going up left and right here in our usually sleepy, rural, N. Georgia county. People fleeing Atlanta. Suburban and rural single family housing inventory is basically non existent. Homes selling for over asking price as soon as they go on the market. Aside from pandemic and social issues, the biggest reason? High availability of very cheap money.

We've seen this movie before, and it did not end well.

Last time I looked at lumber at one of the big box stores, a couple of weeks ago, a 2x4 ww stud was $6.

I'm not sure of the builders are paying that though. When you start a subdivision, it seems like you'd buy by the railroad car load.

Never been to Austin but the region sure is attracting top notch young Silicon Valley expertise...

The parents for the most part are very supportive... some even follow.

I purchased six 6x6x24 and eight 2x12x24yp and it was $2000.
